Hi,
First time caller, I'm afraid.
I'm a singer-songwriter-rhythm guitar player. I'm looking to set up a recording studio on a laptop in my spare room. I'll mostly just be recording me (or an occasional 'guest star' to overdub my poor showings on bass or lead guitar) rather than a full band, and the style is indie-rock-type-stuff. I'm a total novice at this sort of thing, other than mucking around a bit on a Boss BMR to jot down ideas for songs.
I've popped into my local music shop, and they've suggested the following rig:
Mic
One of the following:
- Sontronics STC-2 (£140)
- Rode NT1A (£140)
- SE 220 (£140)
Interface
- Edirol UA25 with Sonar Power Studio Bundle (£170)
Monitors
- Fostex speakers for about £200-£230 (I forget the exact ones)
Then about £50 for leads, pop filter, etc.
Does anyone have any opinions on any of the above equipment? Or any better suggestions in about the same price range? Also, are there any good simple-to-use bits of (cheap) drum software out there?
All help gratefully appreciated. Very much looking forward to getting stuck in.
JB
PS Also, any killer ideas for laptops retailing at about £600 very much appreciated).
