Starting out with Drum Samples

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I'm a guitar player/singer/songwriter looking to add some drums to my recording process. I've got some drum samples but I'm wondering what a good software sequencer would be? I don't have any midi hardware and I'm not interested in buying any (I'm not sure if this is necessary for me to do what I want to do). Looking for a squencer that has flexibilty, not just 4/4 time but the ability to program odd time signatures and can swing a beat etc. I really have no idea what I'm doing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

ps - Is there software I can use for bass tracks as well as other stringed instruments (bango, mandolin, fiddle, etc.) out there? I want do some demo stuff and don't have access to all the instruments I want to use, nor the musicians to play them. Once again any help is appreciated.
 
I you have a computer the best thing to get in my opinion is "Reason".
 
Can "Reason" be used without having a midi keyboard to trigger the notes? Like I said I'm totally new at this and would software that you can program the drum samples without using a midi keyboard.

I think so. Check out http://www.propellerheads.se and you'll get better answers. From what I've heard and seen this is the best if I had a computer that work smooth and consistantly I would be all over it.

not that familiar with reason myself, but enough to shy away from it.

j, it depends on what you currently record with. if youre lookin for an all in one package that you can do drums with too, id suggest looking at things like logic/cubase, etc all of which generally have budget/starter versions and have the ability to incorporate midi instruments. you dont need midi devices either (i dont) you can use 1 of several types of input, depending on what you use. if you want good,real drums, look at BFD (native instruments). if youre using your own samples for drums, you only need something like Battery or Ritmo (google search and youll find some info)
