I have two mixers, both Mackies, a profx22 which offers USB output and 802vlz3 which has RCA outs. I have a Toshiba laptop and an iPad.the Toshiba has traktor3 which came with the pro fx22 and the iPad has garage band. Which would be the better option for me to start.which combo? And do in need anything else to begin?I have all all the band equipment and mics but wanted to start recording some originals. Thanks ahead of time. I forgot to mention on the iPad I have split plus with lots of amps and effects and use the Peavey amplink, similar to the irig.

The best option would be to get hold of some free software, like Audacity or Reaper... and use the Profx22 as an interface with the Toshiba laptop. Sounded a bit cluedo... Ahead of that some speakers that you can trust, and perhaps a midi keyboard, though I'm sure you could figure something out using the Ipad as a controller. Take a look round some forums and some tutorials and let an expansive hubby grip you

Are you trying to get individual tracks for each mic/etc. ?
seems the profx22 will only have stereo outs :(

Yes, the Mackie only has 2 track (stereo) USB out. Note that Reaper is not free, just free to try out.
