Despite the C1000 & 3000 getting a complete bashing, I've picked up a C2000 with shockmount on ebay for £50 delivered... is this a good deal? The cheapest I've found them for online in the UK is £110.

We're on a tight budget and looking to buy the Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire to interface with the PC @ £200 new - do you think the pre-amps built into this mixer will give a decent sounding output?

It's our Band's first condenser and I'm looking to use it either as a drum overhead or for vocals, possibly to mic guitar/bass if it sounds good.

Any feedback/advice would be helpful,

what sort of stuff does your band play???????????????

HEY C1000s & 3000s are better than nothing..................yes they are quite harsh on the top end but the lord of studio blessed us with EQ (what a fine chap)...........I use C1000s for live use because they have a direction cap & it's all I've got..........OK

I've also used the C3000 a fair ol' bit & it is no longer my mic of choice because I've invested in better ones & it didn't belong to me anyway :o

only once did I use a C2000 & for £50 I'd say you can't sniff at that for overheads or vocals, I wouldn't try to use it on anything rock sounding for bass or guitar as it is a condensor mic & doesn't tend to handle a lot of air movements, I'm not saying "don't use it for that purpose" but I would be more enclined to ambiently mic in conjuction with an SM57 (for the sake of a name) does it have a pad on it say by 10-20db??? I've used padded condensors on bass drums in the past......................in fact I use an AKG solidtube all the time about 1 1/2 feet in front of my kick. And last but not least it'll record acoustics quite well

It's a perfectly good entry level condenser. An excellent choice. Sleep well.-Richie

Yup, Richie is the AKG expert and IMHO the 200 is a nice mic

All i know is that the C3000b sucks crap on vocals and guitar. They are horrible on highs so nothing sounds clear on this mic. You're better off getting the AT-3035 like i did.
Before getting it, i tried out the Rode NT1-A, AKG C3000b and AT-3035, and the AT-3035 was the outstanding one.

not that I actually care to much, but I totally disagree

Well, it's my opinion. That's how the mic sounded to my ears, doesn't mean it'll sound the same to yours.

equaliser...................is an unbelievable tool for shifting harshness............& any other frequency that might piss one off
