Hey everyone.

I am pretty new to the home recording scene, but I have been recording and also messing around with audio equipment for at least 7 years now, so I generally know what's out there, but needless to say, I am still a noob...

So I am looking to build my own recording studio, generally "cheap" but still nicely affective. I have been using FL Studio to make beats on, and I have been using Sound Forge and a crappy old mic for recording...just stuff kind of lying around the house, and softwar that came free with some thing I have bought in the past...

I hate myself for admitting all of that, but I would like to get some feedback and what I should be looking to get for my new and improved studio...

This is gonna be long winded...

Ok so I am looking to do something within the confines of my room, ( I have already begun reworking the dimesions for better acoustical sound and recording), I want to use my computer as the recording and beat making powerhouse, I have a midi controller, and I am looking for more input as to what else I should get...

I am just looking to buy and set up a home recording system that will make really decent sounding tracks for my music (hip hop)...

if any of you have any input I am more than willing to listen...

Thanks

Mike

**edit**

I would also like some input as to what software I should use...

right now I am looking at Reason in conjuction with Calkwalk Sonar, but any input would be greatly appreciated

1. Decent Soundcard. Maybe something like a Audiophile 2496, since it seems to be one of the best at its price range. About £54.00, if you are in US it shouldn't be much.
2. Decent Microphone. Preferible a Condenser mic. eg http://www.turnkey.co.uk/tkweb/stockdetail.jsp?sku=AKG-C1000S&context=WEB
its got a 9v battery so you won't really need phantom power.
3. A mixer e.g http://www.turnkey.co.uk/tkweb/stockdetail.jsp?sku=TAPC-6306MIX&context=WEB
or
http://www.turnkey.co.uk/tkweb/stockdetail.jsp?sku=BEHR-UB502&context=WEB if you want to go cheaper.
Its got a mic pre-amp and phantom booster/power. Meaning you won't need to buy a pre-amp or seperate phantom booster/power.
4. Pop filter. You can buy it or make your own by taking your mum's old pulling stockings and attaching them to a coat hanger, in such a way that the pulling stockign surface covers a considerable surface area.

A good dedicated PC, with good Ram 512 or above is recomandeable, though i'm using 256 fmy self for the moment.

5. Talent or Passion or hardwork ^_^ . Happy music making, hope you find my rumbling useful.
