My old PC completely gave up Saturday night.

I *hope* I have all my sound files backed up, but what I forgot to back up were my plug-ins VSTi's. WOndering how easy it is going to be to find them all . The only thing I paid for was EZ Drummer, the rest were all freebies.

Good news is I now have 6K RAM, so should not have any running issues.

Sorry to hear about that. It's an awful sickening sensation when you realise that a whole heap of important stuff may have disappeared.

You should not give up totally on your hard drive. The stuff on it may be recoverable. For example, there's a program called Zero Assumption Recovery with which I was able to restore stuff from a hard disk that, after a fall, told me there was nothing on it.

Have you bought a new computer?
If so, you can just pull the HDD from your old comp and stick it in the new one as a 2nd drive.

If the old drive itself is in good health, you can recover what you like at your leisure, and then use it as a storage drive once you're clear. :)

Lost my PC in a flood last year (house too). I sent the hard drive to Seagate (via Staples) and they were able to recover all the data. It wasn't cheap ($1500) but for me it was worth it. Had some recordings on there from the 1960's that had recently been transferred from tape.

The old HD was noisy since year 2, so not sure I want to use it full time, but certainly getting the data from it may be possible. This computer is so quiet, I won't
have to move my mic into the next room to record any more!

One thing I learned from all this - back up your (free) VSTs, too, or you'll be searching all over for them to re-download and install.
