Hi,

Apologies for the newb PT(9) question but I want to play an intro in free time and then have the click start after about 20 seconds. Is there a "best" way to do this, do I need to use regions or can I just delay the start of the click track?

Thanks

You can volume automate a click track, so you can't hear it at certain points,
but the chances of you playing your intro and coming in in time with the start of the click are low.

I'd probably volume automate the click so I have free time at the start of the session, then record the intro on it's own.

Record the rest of the song, starting from the click point, and then when you're happy, butt the two together.

There may be a better way, IDK.

Thanks, I might also have a play around with the conductor track. The idea is that the intro will dictate when the click starts so I may record the click and then move the whole click track up to the right spot in the intro.

What? That's pretty much the opposite of what i suggested. (not that you have to take my suggestion.lol)

You say record and move the click track though. Are you actually recording in a live click? Just use the one built in to Pro Tools?!

Just record your song to the click, leaving more than enough room for the intro,

then turn the click off and record the intro in the gap at the start.

After that, you can move it to lead in properly.
