I did a cover of the intro of the Starcraft 1 Terran's theme.

NEW VERSION DOWN BELOW

What do you think so far? It's still a piece of work. There is so much wizzly-dizzly magic going on in the background in the original and I'm trying to figure it out.

That's pretty cool!

The big difference that I'm spotting is that your drums are probably too dry and too "real". The original has big arena-sounding drums that are almost assuredly samples. Yours sounds a lot more like they're in a small room with minimal effects and perhaps only decent mics.

Is this some nerdwars shit or something?

I think it sounds okay, but the overdriven guitars are really flat and scratchy. They sound like a bad sim. The synth thing is too out front to me.

They are a bad sim. It's actually a plug-in that is meant to distort things like drums or add vocal grit.

The synth during the bad guitar sim part is what I was talking about. Just a little too out front for me.

As for the song... I don't know what StarCraft is. I assume it's along the lines of Star Wars, Star Trek, Star Search, Star Jones, Star child (Paul Stanley), etc. Since you know how to play guitar, there's no viable reason for this thing to sound like something Geddy Lee shit out in the mid-80s. You're a rocker, Dog In Door! You piss on keyboards. Now tune up that axe and record the rockinest Star Trek theme song that the world has ever heard. In fact, the hell with tuning. 'Cause that's just the kind of guy you are!

I was thinking about adding in a guitar layer to the synth melody at the end.
And synths are cool. You just don't know it yet!

@greg: esports are my generations favourite pastime. Fun fact: More people watched the League of Legends final than watched the NBA! Granted, I'm sure 80% were Chinese but still...

Haha. Yeah I can believe it, but "esports" in lieu of actual activity are a big why american kids are so grossly obese and socially broken. Kids would rather sit on a couch and play Madden instead of going outside and playing actual football. :(
 
It's true. Most of them range between too skinny and too fat. There are like a few (mostly the Europeans and South Koreans) that are actually in shape or "normal". Most professional esports teams go to the gym as part of their training regimen nowadays. Even then, I can imagine that RSI in the hands and eye problems are prevalent.
On the plus side, they can be hilarious to watch. Some of the post-game interviews are the most awkward things I've ever seen. It's like taking that kid who comes out of his room twice a week and shoving him in front of an audience of 40 million and asking him about his favorite video game. Funny stuff.

The NBA has been unwatchable since '93, so this isn't terribly surprising. And let us keep in mind the obvious fact that a glut of people participating in some common behavior should never serve as a reason in and of itself to somehow validate that behavior. Stated differently... "People are morons."

You're not British, so maybe it's not too late for you to start spelling English words the right way. You'll want to ditch the excess "u"s.
