I am about to order 16 new mic cables for my studio. I am on the fence as to get Star Quad or not. I understand they are superior for EMI rejection, but the tade-off may be high frequency roll-off from extra capacitance.

Although not snake oil per se certainly seem to be OTT for the average home studio.

I've used them...nothing much different from more basic mic cables. If the price is right, they are pretty durable.

I make a lot of my own, mostly using Belden mic cable and Neutrik connectors...but I have an assortment off various brands. Usually I grab the first on the rack within my reach...whatever it is. :D

They are flat as a pancake out to 20KHz.....

^^^ This. So much "cable theory" (sic) misrepresents truths about signal behavior outside the spectrum of audible sound for truths about signal behavior within the audible spectrum. Generally only serves to confuse people.

fwiw, all the mic cables in my home studio are Canare L4E6S StarQuad...not because it's necessarily superior to any other option, but simply because I got a great deal on a bulk spool. But it's definitely not rolling off any of the top end of the instruments I'm recording with it. Perhaps if I were recording microwaves... :)

I ended up getting the standard Mic cables, as a dealer my cost was actually more for the Standard than the Quad. I asked my rep about this and he said "Everyone marks them up more". I asked if this was because of "Marketing Hype" and he had no comment. The Quad has 4 24 gauge conductors, the standard had 2 20 gauge. In the end 20 gauge is still 1 size bigger than 2 24 gauge in parallel.
