I have to do a session/project with an accoustic stand up bass. What might a mic choice be? I want a real nice sound.Im assuming that it does not have a pickup so I dont think I'll be blending 2 sources. Among my mic that may work well are...

Rode NTV
AT 4033
SM 81
AKGC3000B
SURE KSM 27
Groove Tube G55? ( I think that is the model)

Also, I have to mic a jazz drum kit. The kick has the head on the front with no hole cut. These jaz guys love that sound. I'm thinking mic it at the front ,a little off centered 2 or 3 inches from the resonant head with a D112 or Beta 52. Any better ideas??
Thanks,Jim

I've used the C-3000 on acoustic bass. I put about a16" away pointed at the top of the treble side "f" hole. At the time, I did not use the role off and it was set to cardiod. I've also used a GT AM-52 in omni set up about the same but out about a foot. I think I liked the 52 better but the AKG still did a decent job.

And on the drums, I think I'd use the AT-4033 as an overhead. If you have two, I'd maybe do an X-Y overhead with them. I'd try either the D-112 or the Beta-52 on the beater side of the kick and the Rode out in front of the kit about 3' to 6' about the height of the top of the kick shell. I'd try the KSM-27 on the snare out about 6" or so away fro the edge pointed at the rim.

really!

HUH, I ve never mic'd a jazz set of drums. before Those are interesting ideas Track! It seems that you would be going for a very open sound which is what the jazz recordings I have been checking out lately seem to be. I'll try and let you know. It seems like the kick drum on a jazz kit is always in the distance. Never up front and punchy like I'm used to . Your mic placement suggestions reinforce that feeling. Thanks,Jim

Just so happens I've mic'ed and performed in jazz groups. Here is a link.

it's the clip marked LBV4 medley. 3 vocals w/ piano, bass and drums. I put a Studio Projects mic in the bass bridge facing the body. I used the condom that comes with the mic and wrapped a sock around the body of the mic so it wouldn't scratch the bass. Drums I used a Senheiser 602 in the kick and a AT4033 overhead.
Hope this helps.
