ST audio interface

Anyone any experience with ST audio interfaces?

This one in particular:

http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--STODSP2000

I'm looking for a budget interface with lots of ins/outs.

I'm a doofus when it comes to PC recording (in fact I'm a doofus when it comes to recording full stop)

Also interested in opinions on the software that's included.

Thanks

Actually, ESI (egosys) are the new guys holding the STAudio name and products, and they have been doing cool things, like offering their drivers with their interface (which I prefer) to the ST line...

But just the fact that ST was just bought makes me shy away from their products, and they don't seem to be as unique as other offerings in their price category.

I have the Wami Rack l - and am considering selling it. It looks like what you ar elooking at except has 4 XLR ins with preamps.

Its drivers "rock" very flexible. There is a vitural patchbay where you can route programs to each other.

Hey again,
Don't want to sound like a broken record, but you will not find an 8-I/O,2-XLR mic-in preamps,midiI/O, s/pdifI/O, AES/EBU I/O anywhere for the price of the STAudio!!

I've made a couple of albums 2 years ago using the Hoontech/STAudio.ESI DSP2000 system.

These were using a PIII 1GHz cpu, Abit mobo, 2 x Maxtor ATA133 20Gb in a RAID0 config.
Recording rate 44.1KHz 16bit.

I'm just rebuilding my system as the PSU/mobo blew
2.8GHz P4 (do yourself a favour use Northwood NOT Prescott like mine - too hot too noisy) Epox mobo, 2 x Maxtor Diamond plus9 ATA133 80GB in RAID0 (gonna try without RAID also)

I've done a lot of windows tweaking, vache 8192, read ahead off, write behind off, doublebuffer=0, auto insert off, etc.

44.1 and48KHz work fine but I'm getting glitches using 88.2/96KHz

Maybe a little more tweaking is required

ps
Erm...s'ware VST5.0R6 and Wavelab3

On further investigation 44.1 and 48 are glitching too, just less often.

I've tried all the soft options I can think of.
No IRQ contention
Maybe it's time to start swapping PCI cards about (it's been known to work).

Right under my ****** nose

I've just had a three-day battle trying to get Cubase/98SE to record without clicks.

I did ALL the optimisations:- vcache, write behind off, doublebuffer=0, windows animation off etc.
Moved the PCI cards around, disabled almost everything. Click, click, click!!!!

Made ghost images of all logical drives then started ripping out installed programs.
Ripped out all the DX Plugins.
Slight improvement but still clicks every now and then.
Used System Information\System Configuration Utility\Start up to disable unwanted background tasks.
I analysed a "take" in Wavelab and found that every minute I would get 3 clicks 23ms apart which would cause a timing stutter in Cubase.

CAUSE?? - The damn clock on the taskbar
Disable clock and auto hide and it behaves itself.
Still have to disable stuff like Norton Anti Virus and CD auto insert but finally it works.

My old PIII 1GHz on an Abit VP6 was never this fussy.
Current system is very highly strung.
P4E 2.8GHz on an Epox 4PDA2V

All I have to do now is learn my parts for the up and coming sessions. ;)
Oh and get the PC to run quietly.
To Watercool or not to watercool?

I bought one like 2 years ago. I used it to record at home and actually recorded 2 demos for bands. I sold it this year. I´m going to upgrade.

Well, the st audio drivers were horrible. crackles, glitches....even at 44 khz/16 bit. The new ego-sys drivers worked ok.

Dsp2000c: I don´t like its sound and it lacks quality..i mean...the components ( electronics/materials), pre-amps sound cold, also de the converter isn´t even used anymore (check akm electronics).

I wouldnt buy it again.

kevin.
how many inputs do you need ?
also , what are your aims in your music career ?
do you just want to write decent sounding songs or do you
want to own a high end studio eventually ? (which frankly is a ton of work).

This thread was from a while ago but thanks for the response all the same.
I ended up popping for the Delta 1010LT as I read some fairly negative stuff about ST Audio.

To answer your question anyway I'm a musician foremost and have no aspirations to make a living in recording (not on the desk side of the glass anyway).

Thanks again

i guess it would depend on how you hook your gear up to your soundcard but...
the webstie says the ST audio device is a 10x10 full duplex card for 450 US. The echo GINA 3G is a 10x14 full douplex for 349 US. The main difference i see is that the GINA uses ADAT digital connections while the ST has more ananlog connections.
