Why is it when anybody sells a Squire guitar on craigslist they list it as a Fender.

My Eppi Les Paul has a truss-rod cover on it that is engraved Gibson but I would not list it as a Gibson when I sell it?

Doesn't Fender make the Squire line? It says so on the headstock and on their webpage. As long as they don't say Fender Strat...

People do dishonest things for the sake of sales. For instance, when I met my wife I told her "Yeah, I really like David Bowie too!"

I'm seeing, and hearing (on the radio) this happen quite a bit, lately. What happened? Did somebody, somewhere along the line, repeal the laws against what's known as "bait and switch?" On the radio station I listen to at work, there's a music store that advertises "Fender Stratocasters from $99.00" and "Fender guitar packages as low as $149.99." I'd be willing to bet the price of a Fender Stratocaster XII ($699.99 at Musician's Friend) that if one goes to that store thinking they're gonna get a $99.00 Fender Stratocaster, they'll end up disappointed to find out that it's likely a Squier Bullet...even a Squier Bullet Special, which I know for sure is $99.00 'cause I own one. I don't give a rat's butt if it says "by Fender" below the Squier logo on the headstock...false advertising/bait and switch is WRONG. Not to mention piss poor business practice.

What's next? Epiphones being touted as Gibsons because Epiphone happens to be a subsidiary of Gibson that happens to make several of the same models the Gibson does? I can hear a commercial now..."Gibson Les Paul guitars as low as $99.99." My $99.99 Les Paul is an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90, so I could pretty much be 100% certain that's what any advertiser would be talking about.

It's written SQUIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There, I finally said it. Man, thats been building up inside of me for years.

Continue.

And yes, it's bullshit that they are being sold as Fenders.

Every time I see an epi on Craigslist it's listed as a "Gibson Epiphone" or some such nonsense.

Even more egregious is the abuse of the term "vintage", as if it is always a plus that your obscure item also happens to be old and busted.

It's True

Squiers are Fender Strats, cheap overseas versions thereof. I had one the first year they came out & the headstock read "Squier Stratocaster." "Fender" was printed on the back.

So is it right to call a Pacific drum kit a DW
An Applause guitar an Ovation
A Jasmine guitar a Takamine
A Mercury a Ford
Myhatbroke an ass
Samson ...Zoom.....Hartke
