Does anyone have or can give detailed information on the differences between the new Squier Standard Series Stratocasters and the old Squier Stratocasters? And I want to know how the new Standard Series Strats by Squier compete with Mexican made fender strats and american made strats.

I could be wrong...

...but the difference between the Squier series and the non-Squier series is that Squiers are made in Mexico and are the white-trash cousins of the non-Squiers that are made in USA!

The difference in playability, tone and workmanship between an American Standard Deluxe strat and a Squier Standard strat is like night and day! At least, it was last time I was guitar shopping.............

Actually....
The Squier line is made in Korea. A "standard" Strat (costing about $300) with the Fender logo is made in Mexico. The "American Standard" and up are USA models.
Difference ranges from wood type to electronics to hardware. The only real similarity is that the same template is used when shaping the body, and they use the Fender headstock shape that no one else is allowed to use on the Squiers.

See...

... I TOLD you I was wrong!

But gimme an American Deluxe Strat over ANY Squier any day!!!

Sure, if you're going to GIVE it to me, that would be my take too. But that makes me ponder...what IS the best Fender Stratocaster for the money? no other brands considered.
MY answer...up until about 2 years ago there were a line of "reissue" Strats, called names like 50's Strat and 60's Strat. They were made in Japan (NOT Korea, you have to look at the back of the neck). These guitars were built from the proper wood types and had nice electronics in them. So nice, in fact, that Fender quit making them (rumor was that they were better than the American Standards being built). At the time they sold for around $300-$400. If you can find one out there now, that would be your best bang for the buck.

@ musiciansfriend.com they have those 50's, 60's, 70's stratocasters for 500-600 dollars. They look really nice. And about Squier, they made a new Standard Series, that was the question I was asking about, they said that the new Squiers were made with hardware that is featured on Stratocasters and there is a big leap from the old squier strats and the new squier strats in the quality scale. Alot of people say that the new Squier Stratocasters are alot better than the Fender Standard Series Strat which are made in Ensenada, Mexico.

Ice-
$500-$600 is the range for a late model American Standard Strat. The other thing is that I think the new 50's, 60's etc. are not made the way they were a few years ago. I played one last night through a Vox AC-15 and was unimpressed. I forgot to look and see where it was made though....D'oh!

Ok...my experience w/ Fenders.

1989--Strat Plus/gun metal blue/lace sensors/schaller locking tuners/hipshot tremsetter/jumbo frets/wilkinson roller nut. Sold it, didn't know what I had!!

1993--Strat Plus/lipstik red...same setup. I pitty the fool who ever steals it!!

1997--Squier/a special series with some kind of pro-tone pickups...some the best I've heard/transparent blonde finish/made in Korea/vintage setup. The only reason I bought it was for looks because the damn thing wouldn't stay in tune & sounded really thin. If shit was made out of wood this was it!

1998--the Classic 50's Strat/$500.00. Decent. Bending strings on a 8.25 radius is hard work. Sent it back.

1999--American Deluxe Fat Stratocaster/vintage-noiseless pickups/the works. An execllent instrument but not worth $1100.00. Sent it back

2000--Mexican Made Strat. A very good value for $300.00. It's good!

2000--American Std Stratocaster. God, country, family, Stratocaster...or maybe my job.

I can second a recommendation for the Japanese strats. Got one when I turned 40 after having played accoustic guitar only since I left a band as a teenager.

I just turned 50 and celebrated myself with an American Fender Custom Shop strat. And yes, it is better than the Japanese strat, but only a little. Not five times better, even though that is the difference in price. Perhaps 30% better or something like that.

My Jap Strat is the second electric guitar I've owned. I've had it for about 10 years now and haven't played anything I like better. It's the contemporary series-22 frets, fender locking trem, 3-singles.

These things go pretty cheap when you can find em. Like $175-300. Great deal!
