Squier Jazz Bass

I picked up a Squier Jazz Bass the other day and realized that the pickguard is differnt from any other Squier or Fender Jazz Bass I've ever seen. Instead of having a control plate vor the knobs and input, it has a pickguard for the whole thing. Any thoughts?

Maybe an aftermarket pickguard?

Do you have a pick of the whole bass instead of such a close-up?

Nope...they did these from the factory. I have a late-90's MIM Fender Jazz Bass that has the same sort of pickguard. It's almost like they tried to do a P-Bass type of guard on it.

It plays and sounds great. I was just curious about the pickguard.
