SPIDF connection

Couple of questions regarding SPDIF connection:

1. My TASCAM 564 digital portastudio has a SPDIF out which the manual says can send the data from channels 1 and 2. It looks like a regular 1/8" RCA plug. IS it? If not, where do I find an SPDIF cable?

2. I'm thinking of buying the TASCAM CD-R400 CD burner kit. I know it can connect to your PC, but does it have an SPDIF input on it?

Ya...It's like a hi-fi jack. Just make sure it's a good quality cable from Cirquit City or The Good Guys. They cost more than something from Radio Shack but they help eliminate interference. In fact I bought two from Radio Shack when I was first trying to hook up some sp/dif stuff and I spent two days and nights reloading programs and screwing with my computer before I discovered the stinking cables didn't have a long enough center connector to make contact. I don't know about the burner.

It looks like an RCA plug but it isn't. Don't try to substitute anything for a SPDIF cable. Get the real thing.

My Gadgetlabs spdif pamphlet recommends 75 ohm video cables because video cables are usually of better quality. I know people who also use the better quality audio cables available at Cirquit City. I actually use a couple of junk video cables with rca adaptors on each end and they work fine. I've also used plain cheap hi-fi hook-up cables and they also work fine. I called Gadgetlabs and asked them about spdif cables and they recommended video cables. HixMix is the only one I've heard of who has a special source for real spdif cables. Maybe he would be willing to share his source????

Any music store with a decent pro audio or recording department should carry SPDIF cables. I have purchased several from my local Guitar Center.

Try some online sources. American Music Supply, Musician's Friend.

Thanks for the info on the SPDIF cable.
Now for part two:
Does anyone know if the TASCAM CDR Deluxe CD Burner or the Philips CDR770 or CDR765 CD recorders have a SPDIF input? Has anyone tried either of these machines, or would you recommend something else to burn CD's from the TASCAM 564(remember, I'm on a tight budget, just like almost everyone else)

1.) SPDIF (Sony / Philips Digital InterFace) uses a coax cable that handles high frequency digital data. You can get a quality Hosa (brand) cable from places like Guitar Center for a decent discount.

2.) Teac / Tascam makes a couple of CD-R/W decks that have various analogue and digital interfaces -- including an SPDIF.
