Cool tune!
At least this place don't suck!:D

Great sounding as usual, the gritty tone on her voice was just right.
I liked the woo hoo's,just that one time fit well.

Everything was top notch,with a little humor,perfect.

macle - nah it didn't come off negative at all. i know what you mean about the "bad influence" of rap/hip hop...all you have to do is watch the VMAs for a few minutes...or listen to Averil Lavigne...

However, I think that the technology for stuff like loops etc, not neccessarily bad for rock or folk music...all depends on how it is done. (but I know what you mean about getting tired of your stuff...and mine isn't even half way recorded yet).

But, we all love your music...sounds fresh on this side of the country. Everyone I play it for digs it.

by the way - what is the first line in "All About You"?

nice, typical, Sgt Pepper-ish, Macle sound, with your beauty on vocals....which I had a hard time hearing and understanding the vocals for some reason this time. Nice and 'peppy'...eh? You've got a keen ear for production and pop tunes. My main gripe about your music is Angelfire (thanks Kramer;) ). And...I almost thought my MP3 d/l'ed backwards at first!!!

I gotta ask...you're in your 30's..maybe...younger?? I know another guy that has a slant towards the early McCartney/Lennon sound too...yet he's a pup too. How does this happen? Do you own any Rics??

Wes-I'd like to bury my attorney, too, in cement six feet under...Ha, yeah ya gots to have dumb shit audience patisapaysheon. Everybody!!! (point mic to audience of door guy, 3 metalheads who hate you, 1 old drunk dude, 2 skanks)....WOOHOo...oh forget it...

Kramer-hey it seems your site is down now, and mine is back up! Yeah, screaming is fun, you gots to show em who's boss!! You know, I mean, you just need a code word or a signal, so things don't get out of hand...we goona suber up, juz 1 more beer occifer <hic>...

muzeman-Thanks a lot. I guess the woohoo stays, maybe we'll redo it, though, try and get a better one. Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Wes-Okay, good, sometimes I just start ranting and raving...but, yeah, sometimes watching something like the VMAs, and I don't even want to be in music at all. Funny you mention Averil Lavigne, cuz I was kinda paranoid that that's what this song seems like. As far as the technology thing, I change my mind every minute, sometimes I'm loving it, other times I just want to chuck it all. I've started on some new tunes, which are more stripped down, and I think it's gonna be pretty fun, so...it's all the grass is greener bit again. I'm proud (sort of) of what went into these ones, just looking forward to a different approach. The first line is "Beautiful creature, you love no one else, no one can touch you, you do it yourself." Why? (Oh, regarding that melody at 1:00, yeah I wrote it, or well, I prefer to say made it up or came up with it. Why, does it seem like it's stolen? :) )

mixmkr-Thanks!! How cool that you hear a Pepperish influence in this one, makes me feel better. :D As far as how could I be into Lennon/McCartney, I always think, how could anyone not be?!? :D
No, I don't have any Rics, wish I did though...the cheapest thing in that world was an Epiphone Casino, Korea version. Thanks again.

Wes-Yeah, kinda does look like her. Not bad. :p

Macle

no i just didn't know if Max came up with any of the neat melody change ups herself (like at 1:00)

it doesn't sound like Averil...i can't stand that crap...argh.

Can't wait to hear some stripped down stuff....but, yes definately be proud of this work

As far as "All About You" - it always sounded to me like the first like was "Who the fuck aren't you?" - which I thought was brilliant...becuase, everyone says "who the fuck ARE you?"....but, the "aren't" put it in the perfect context of the song..him being all stuck up and such.

But, I knew you were too chicken to use that kind of language on your bubble gum LA Reid wannabe record....j/k ;) You should just write that in the liner notes/lyrics though...tellin ya man, it sounds like that...genius line.

This sounds great even on computer speakers....once again really smooth sound you got-I liked the last verse where you dropped the rythm guitars-and did the cool keyboard stuff. I hear the beatle influence (dear prudence?) but thats a plus in my book-of course i dont think they ever said "sucks" but welcome to the 21st century.

I liked this one quite a bit (like all your songs). I didn't read the other posts yet, so excuse me if I'm being repetitive.

Real good writing. Lots of real good guitar parts all adding nice effects. I loved the tone on the guitar that comes in at 1:40. Real smooth harmonies as usual. The rhythm guitar leading out of the chorus is terrific sounding - don't know why, I just like it. Great job.

I didn't care for the answer back lines on the "How we got here" stuff - just a personal preference. The line "all we know is..." seems to clip (at least on my cheap headphones).

Great two word hook - "This sucks." The only lyrical gripe I have is "Come on drop the bomb..." line. It didn't seem to fit and I'll bet there's probably a better line for that spot.

Hey you finally let your girlfriend do the lead vox. 'bout time. :D. Maybe bring up the levels of the lead vocals just a nudge.

Again great song and great job.

i'd like to request that you post a short essay on exactly how you achieve such a pro sound in your mixes. there is such a large distance between where my mixes are and where yours are that anything you say can help.

oh, and i like the song.

Great track macle, you guy's are something special. The only nitpick I had out of the whole production was the ssssssss on the end of sucksssssssss, but after listening to it twenty times:D I started to like the way it sounded...just kidding I only listened to it like nineteen times:rolleyes: . Wow, the recording, and mix, just don't get any better to my ears. What pre are you using now, the peavey? Seems like you mentioned that one time. Glad I took the time...David

Chris-I will comment on one of your masterpieces as soon as I can...
Don't waste your time. HOWEVER, since I agree that your recording is pretty damned fine, I too would like to know how you record. I'm not talking "gear" stuff, 'cause I refuse to go out and buy equipment that you might record with, thereby eliminating 99% of my excuses for my crappy mixes. I'm talking "wholistic approach" stuff here...like:

"I start with drum loops, always...then I record SOMETHING for low end...a bass maybe...THEN WE SING, then guitar parts, then drum fills,...then, I use a producer friend of mine named Mutt Lange to kinda' smooth things out..."

Seriously, anything you can add to my limited understanding of the magical/ voodoo-like process that is "recording" would be greatly appreciated.

(sorry if I'm repeating, but a lot of your songs seem to be...ummm.. really good and stuff).

:D
-the inquiring behind who wants to know

It would be safe to assume that the reason for the good mixes that he "mostly" gets is mainly due to a very good set of ears. Not in a physical sence (as in big ears) but in a musical sence.
But you see with wonderfull arrangements, melodies and voices like day have, he could record it on a looping rubber band and it would still rock.

PS. Hope you didn't mind the beatles mackle pic I posted above. If you do I'll stop it. (maybe)

>thanks to kramer for putting that link up there!!!

I'll second that! Angelfire was JAMMING! 350KB/sec.

But I have to say YOU SUCK!

For your ability to put together a highly marketable pop tune.

:)

Macle,

As usual, excellent song and production. There's nothing I could possibly criticize- it sounds great to my ears.
I'm tellin ya, you gotta check out the Rembrandts. Your stuff is very, very close to theirs. Very tight, catchy pop tunes. I love it!

Hey Macle......
.......whew...... that is very very nice. I just listened to this on my shitty work speakers, so im not gonna go into mix. The performance and production on this is great though. Very well conveyed picture of a solid act. As far as the recording goes, I can tell you this: I will be doing a lot of deep mix studying when i get home and get a chance to hear it there. ...and thanks in advance for that..

.........as usual, GREAT stuff macle, its always a pleasure!

G

dammit, every time macle posts a song, I have to go through and destroy all of my work cause it sucks. You're bad for my self esteem man...

Wes-very glad it doesn't seem like that Averil Lavigne stuff...probably be a while before I post any new stuff (I was almost gonna post a demo of a new song just cuz I was excited about it, but thought better of it.) Yeah, that's a good line, funny you heard it like that, but YOU wrote so YOU should use it! :) We do have dirty words and dirty thoughts (in many of the songs), just more subversively done. ;) She's actually singing to herself in All About You, btw. Oh, and hope your new NTK works out!

Stratomaster-Thanks very much. Yeah, "Dear Prudence", a favorite for ripping off, with that descending thing. What a GREAT song that is...Ugh, the "sucks" thing, yeah, that's why the 21st century suc...isn't as good. :) Ironic, in trying to make fun of the word (and the culture that goes with it), we've got a bloody song with it in the title! What fools. I really really want to change it, or dump the song, or maybe get someone like Averil Lavigne to cover it.

A Reel Person- Thanks!

Scott-Hey, how are you? That is too funny, if not entirely blasphemous!! Who are those two wannabeatles walking behind us?

TripleM-Alright, thank you. Very glad you like the guitar bits. I completely agree about the answer line, that wasn't in there originally, we stuck it in to try and show my presence (we have found that if one of us just sings, people think it's just a solo project, so we wanted to establish a duo kind of thing.) But I agree that it seems forced or doesn't really add anything good at all! As far as my girlfriend singing lead, you must have missed the ones she sings lead on. We split up the songs evenly, 4 for her, 4 for me, and 4 duets (she sings Despair, All About You, Hardcore, as well as this one). Thanks again.

Eric-Thanks. I'm downloading your tune, so I'll respond on your thread, hopefully I'll be able to say something useful. :D

David-Hey, how you been? Thanks very much. That sssss thing, on the first little demo we did of this tune, that led into a bomb exploding, so it's like a fuse sound. Clever, eh? But, we haven't stuck the bomb on there yet, or maybe we shouldn't, I don't know...No, I never got the Peavey, would like to, I'm using a repackaged API, which is pretty good, I think, though it's considered sort of a dark pre, not necessarily airy and shiny like is so popular. Thanks again, David.

Chris-Hey Chris, well I'm gonna try and check one of yours out anyway. You know, the funny things is, when I listen to my own recordings, sometimes I think they sound okay, but most times I feel I have a long way to go, so I feel a bit silly saying what I do as if I know what I'm doing! But I will since you and Eric asked, I'll try and post something in a sec. Thanks again.

Scott-Thanks, man. My ears are kinda big, and you know what that means! I don't mind the pic, except as a Beatle fan, I think, how dare you!!

drstawl-Thanks! We tried to suck on this one as best we can.

twist-Thanks very much. I will check The Rembrandts out, for sure!

Guernica-Thanks! I really really appreciate your kind words. Keep up your great sounding stuff, looking forward to your next one.

JFogarty-Hey, I think your Creedance stuff blows the shit I'm working on out the water!

Thanks,
Macle

Macle:
Ah, finally got my dsl connection! I have been staring at this thread since the day it was posted and waiting for the dsl to arrive :)

I really, i mean really really love your girl's voice. It's very expressive. I don't know if her throat can take that kind of singing easily or not, but, I truely hope nothing will ever go wrong. Damn, I am jealous, her voice is way sexier than mine. this sucks :)

Good job!
