Speaking of cheap microphones...

Am puzzling over how a "trashy" sounding mic WON'T sound great on amped blues harmonica? Please "Splain it to me Lucy". :)

It might sound SO bad (non-James Brown meaning) on vocals to sound good (sometimes) ala a Shure Green Bullet.

Kind of like when a restaurant has a "World's Worst Diner" sign on it and it makes you want to eat there...

I tried it as a straight unamplifed harmonica mic and it was too bottom heavy and the handling noise made it unusable, but you might be right as an amped harmonica mic (miking the amp, not the harmonica). Another thing to try.

Re the kick experiment; it didn't do a good job by itself, but Alex thinks it would add some warmth if used with a D112 or an ATM25. His comment was that it seems to add a rounder sound when paired with another mic.

It MIGHT work well for some very thin sounding vocals (or as an effect), but it wouldn't be the mic I'd think about for vocals.

As far as the "World's Worst Diner" goes, I still cringe a little bit when I see signs that say "Stop Here For Food And Gas".

....people seem to be more or less upset about spam on these types of boards based on who posts it. When a member's first post is "Buy my recording info tapes!" they generally get very rude responses. If a more well-known reseller or manufacurer posts information about their products, that seems to be fine. Or if a studio posts an opinion that a person should hire a studio or hire someone to master a project (which is, in a way, promoting themselves), that seems to be fine too.

And I think that's perfectly sensible. If you've got a $15 mic that you think is cool, post it. I highly doubt that you would stretch the truth about this mic just to improve your sales. Now that I think about it, it may very well be this last bit that pisses people off....

And yes, I realize that I am making generalizations about a board when I only have like 6 posts!

a couple points....

Harvey, I think you just "got the word out" in your very first post and the subsequent posts too.

I don't personally have a problem with it.

I could care less what DJL thinks.

I could care less about what anybody else thinks, as in this respect I admittedly only care about my opinion on this subject.

My moreme headphones really do suck...but for inexpensive headphones and ones I don't care too much if a pair melts down, they are a great answer. I have used my five pairs ALOT recently and can see potentially getting another 5 pairs, even though they DO suck!! However, the business side of buying them was an excellent experience...no hassles...no worries.

I already own more than enough sucky microphones and don't especially need more cheap shit mics. But hearing your opinion on them being half decent on a 4x12 cab is interesting. Kinda makes a little experience in knowing what you are doing seem all that more important...eh?

WHY THE HECK don't you just post and ad in the "free classifieds" section of the boards and have no worries?

dealers arent welcome in the Free Ads section.......but Moderators around this place are harder to find than an unopened bottle of Vodka at MrQ's house so why not.......and i think Harvey has earned his place here anyway.......

Harvey, are these similar to the Radio Shack 3032 (?)'s that were part of that "$20-cheap" buzz last year?

You're right about that; I sure as hell ain't gonna try to stretch the truth about a $15 mic if it ruins my reputation in the process. As you may have noticed, I posted exactly what I thought sucked about it right in the first post. And I've posted the few things I thought it did well that might make it worth my time to sell it.

If you read mixmkr's comments about the MoreMe's, you'll see he's right on about the phones "sucking", but they're great for what they are. They ain't gonna win any "TEC" awards for innovation, but for a studio that records rock bands, they're a Godsend.

I'll probably offer the same 30+ days trial that I do with the headphones; try them for 30 days or so - if you don't like it (for any reason), return them for a FULL REFUND. And I won't be hard assed about the trial period; if it goes 45 days, I'll still take them back. Why? Because I know that sometimes people just don't have the time to try something quickly.

Fifteen bucks is cheap enough to throw away the innards and use it for DIY stuff.

Sounds cool, I'd spend 20 bucks on something like that.

I have a problem. I found a mic that looks and works great for exactly two applications, and I can add it to the MoreMe line for a ridiculously low price. If I advertise it in magazines, the cost will go up significantly. If I advertise it here, I'm in violation of the rules (according to DJL). Even a banner here would be too expensive.

I don't have any info on my website yet, but it looks like it's great for two applications (and possibly as a backup live mic, if your good mic goes out):

By itself, it makes an electric guitar amp sound kinda trashy (like the solo in the "Queen Of The Stone Age" hit).

Together with a Shure SM57 on a 4x12 cab, it adds a lot of warmth to the final sound, without eq. It compliments the 57 beautifully.

The price I'm toying with? About $15 retail, plus $5 shipping. No clip, no case.

What isn't it good for? Just about everything else. It looks, and feels, good, but it would only be good for things that you want to add some warmth to (although it might work as a bass amp mic - haven't tried that yet).

So, what do I do? How do I get the word out on this thing, and still keep the price down?

Post it here, start a war, get everyone on your side and sell millions of them!

That is the formula for success!!!

On the MoreMe headphones - yeah they do suck soundwise but that's not why I bought a couple of pairs. Got them about 6 months ago and they're still going. Dropped, overdriven, abused, etc. Bass players don't like them. 2 pair of Behringers bought at the same time bit the dust last month. Couldn't handle the high levels.

Bass players don't like anything they can't feel. Get a seat made up with a "Bass Shaker" mounted underneath and they'll shut up about it.

Harvey, while Alex is out there have him throw one up on some tom toms.

Better yet, send us one to check out. :D

Harvey,
If it has a definite warm low end, it would probably make a pretty good mic for horns / trumpets. What do you think, A cheap horn mic replacement for a ribbon mic?
