Speaking of cheap microphones...

I have a problem. I found a mic that looks and works great for exactly two applications, and I can add it to the MoreMe line for a ridiculously low price. If I advertise it in magazines, the cost will go up significantly. If I advertise it here, I'm in violation of the rules (according to DJL). Even a banner here would be too expensive.

I don't have any info on my website yet, but it looks like it's great for two applications (and possibly as a backup live mic, if your good mic goes out):

By itself, it makes an electric guitar amp sound kinda trashy (like the solo in the "Queen Of The Stone Age" hit).

Together with a Shure SM57 on a 4x12 cab, it adds a lot of warmth to the final sound, without eq. It compliments the 57 beautifully.

The price I'm toying with? About $15 retail, plus $5 shipping. No clip, no case.

What isn't it good for? Just about everything else. It looks, and feels, good, but it would only be good for things that you want to add some warmth to (although it might work as a bass amp mic - haven't tried that yet).

So, what do I do? How do I get the word out on this thing, and still keep the price down?

post it right here...

your it's your opinion that it's a great mic. I can't see why it would be wrong to post. plus, the people who'd need a mic for exactly like you say wouldn't be nearly as great as say an all purpose mic. I'd think the demand would be small...but then again, that's pretty damn cheap...

or you could send the info to a moron like me that no one would trust the opinion of. that way you get the message out, but no one will believe me.

double edged sword i guess.

sell me one and I'll hit the boards with reveiws :)

seriously though

Well, I suppose you could try the Musicians section of Craig's List. www.craigslist.org .

If you're nice to them, Dot and Ozraves should give you some extra pub on their site (www.studioforums.com). :D I suppose you could always go hit up your buddies, Fletcher and Mixerman, at prosoundweb.

Also, as I'm sure you're well aware of . . . if your mics are any useful at all, word is almost guaranteed to get out and spread right here on the mic forum if you're patient.

There's also here:

Seems ok to me to post it on this board. 15 dollars, i wouldnt expect you to be making much a profit on it but more of just trying to help the cause to home recordists. But your right, some people might take it as spam, but i say dont worry about it if it has good motives.

Or, you could make me the reseller. I'll charge $20 bucks, + $5 s&h. Then, you could talk up how cool the mic is that Blind Cowboy is selling, and exactly how to get it. I, of course, wouldn't make any mention to it, for violation to the board.

Just go ahead and tell us!

If you are not the manufacturer I don't think DJL can complian too much and I don't care if he does.

I like having Alan and some of the others around...I find it educational and take the appropriate grain of salt if someone has a vested interest in a product.

what 2 applications is it great for?.......

tell me how great a mic it is, and ill take your word for it, and ill spam it for ya.......

It's not a "great" mic, but it does work great for:

1. making an electric guitar amp sound kinda trashy (like the solo in the "Queen Of The Stone Age" hit).

2. Together with a Shure SM57 on a 4x12 cab, it adds a lot of warmth to the final sound, without eq. It compliments the 57 beautifully.

It "might" be a good mic for bass cabs, but I haven't tried that yet. Gonna try it as a kick mic in a few minutes.

So far, it's lousy for vocals, harmonica, snare, or percussion.

So . . . um . . . It kinda' sounds like you're trying to market a mic that basically sucks. :D :D

It may be as simple as having a few members test the "said" mic in question and dicuss their opinions in one of the approprate forums. How many people have posted links to a deal at musicians friend, Mercenary Audio or other resource with comments to why they are referring you to a particular product? How many people have pasted an Ebay link in the bargain basement? As long as some clips are pasted by the testers then people can make up their minds. For all we know you have already done this and its perfectly legal according to the spam rules. Another thing, spam by definition is unsolicited advertisement so if someone asks or solicits info, it technically is no longer spam.

No, it's really outstanding for those two applications (and maybe two more). But yeah, it basically sucks for everything else so far (although if I had a live gig, I'd throw a couple in the mic box, just in case my other mics crapped out).

The big question is; is it worth spending another $15 if you want to improve the sound of your guitar amp, and all you already own is an SM57?

And yeah, I'm trying to figure out if there's a need for that specialized a use.

Like I said about the headphones, I really wasn't looking to go into business with them, but nobody carried stuff I found useful to me, so I made them available, and suddenly I'm a distributor (although I only sell a few sets of heaphones a week). I figure I might do the same amount in mics, so it's no big deal, either way. I'll probably offer a similar warranty to the phones (if it breaks in the first year, I'll replace it for $5, plus $5 shipping. After the first year, $10 plus shipping).

Yes, I plan to send out several for testing and reviews before I commit to this product. And I guess it's not spam, since I haven't posted any info on how to order or linked a website, nor are they available yet.

I think to this crew it would be. I know I like to experiment w/ different mics. The MoreMe cans have lived up to your description (in fact, I used 'em last night to track myself doing some bg vox!), so I would expect this mic to do what you say. Like arcaxis said, when can I place my order?

Looks like you got the word out with your first post !! And word of mouth around here seems to go a long ways to make or break a mic. I'll probably want to get one just as a bang around extra mic and if it does what you claim I'll certainly give it a thumbs up review. Even if it doesn't, it would be hard find fault with a mic for that price.

I don't think you mentioned if it was a dynamic or electret. Your mention of the word "warmth" hints at a dynamic? I guess I shouldn't expect a phantom powered condensor for that money....
Any pics yet and when can I place my order ?
It's a dynamic, and no pics or iinfo yet. Alex is trying it on kick drum right now.

What are these headphones you're talking about? I'm in the market for another set...

In the same fashion your local grocery has a board for people's business cards, Dragon should have a section where for a VERY MODEST (e.g., $5 or $10 a month) fee, people can market their expertise and products.

Banner ads are WAY too expensive!!!!

That's a great idea.

Well, I guess if it was a couple hundred or so . . . but for 15 bucks, what the hell, right?
