What might be a better pair (might), would be JBL SLR25 for $500 a pair. They are one of the most well balanced stereo field monitors for the Price. Check them out!
heres the deal mike...you can get a decent enough mix using those....the trouble with mixing on a speaker setup like that is that its hard to get it to translate to alot of systems....for instance you may play a mix on your buddies stereo and it sounds like it has no bass....your play it on your boom box and its booming......if thats not going to be a problem, go for it.....i mixed on a regular home stereo system for the longest, and I still mix on a lot less than what i call "pro" monitors...its all a matter of what you are looking to accomplish.....
if you are just experimenting with recording and not doing anything pro/semi pro/serious demo, those will do o.k. .....
