Speakers for Tascam us122

I got my Tascam us122 today, I set up the drivers and everything, got cubase installed. None of my speakers will plug into the input jacks in the back, and I can't hear things through the headphones I plugged in. I plugged in my guitar and the light glows green when I play, I can't hear squat through the 'phones. Do you have to run the signal through a speaker before it can be heard in headphones?

Make sure the "Direct" switch is "On," and adjust the "Direct Monitor" gain knob and "Phones" gain knob until you hear something. If you have speakers connected to the RCA jacks on the back, you'll also need to adjust the "Line Out" gain knob to hear stuff out of those. You'll need powered speakers and/or an amp with passive speakers to connect to the Line Out. There are many sets of powered monitors to choose from (M-Audio BX5a/BX8a, Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2a, KRK Rockets, etc. are popular choices in budget monitors). You will need to buy the correct cables/adapters to connect such speakers, as they do not generally come with RCA style jacks. They should have XLR and/or TRS jacks.
