Hello All! Ever the tinkerer in quest of new and exciting tones, I propose the following for our discussion.

I have a "marshall 1936" size closed back cabinet loaded with 2 Weber blue Dog 30 ish watts speakers. (very happy with it). Sounds good powered by Fender Marshall Boogie and Peavey stuff.

I also have a DRRI with a stock 'Jensen' 60 watt speaker. (medium happy) as I use it primarily for clean tones.

Thiniking about removing one Blue Dog from said cabinet and placing the Jensen from the DRRI in the cab and moving the Blue Dog to the Fender Drri. All spk's are 8 ohm.

Please bear in mind I mix and match speakers with heads all the time for recording but the Fender Drri is the only one that regularly goes to jams and small gigs. (blues, alt C. 70's Rock, 80's 90's alternative stuff).

How do you think the Blue Dog/Jensen gonna sound? How do you think the DRRI with Weber Blue Dog will sound? I have other cabs so this is not and end all be all switch. just asking.
Thanks, Be well All.

My limited impression has been that Fender and Jensen are made for each other. The only speaker I really liked better in my Twin was the Cannabis Rex.

I did not really care for any Weber speakers in my Fender amp, but I love Weber in all my other amps.

soundchaser knows speakers pretty good.

I'd say try it and see .... it's not gonna hurt anything and the worst it'll cost you is a few hours work.

thanks guys. I hope you are still out there. I need to clarify. I have driven the blue dog cab with the deluxe. It sounds awesome!! However, the blue dog cab is a 2x12 16 ohm load (2x 8 ohm in series). THe Drri sees twice the nominal impedance when pluggfed into the cab. Like I said it sounds very good, lower in volume of course but rich and full. I just wonder how one of those lovely 30 watt alnico speakers would sound in an open back cab (drri) presenting the appropriate load to the amplifier. I know what the Jensen sounds like and it is very bright but it works well for waht I use the amp for, nonetheless my curiosity is getting the best of me. (too poor to buy new gear so I wanna screw with what I got). I bet the Jensen and Blue dog in the closed back will sound good. Be well All.
