Having just finished reading Phillip Newell's book Project Stuios: A more professional approach, I have come to the realization that I basically know nothing.....lol. Lets put it this way my entire studio is basically wired w/ mono instrument cables. (actually...was, I spent a small fortune on a combination of Monster and Hosa (settle down) balanced cables yesterday.

I bought two cables - Monster Performer 500 Ultra Wide Bandwidth High Power peaker Cable with Magnetic flux tube...blah blah.

I am using the cable to Connect My Mackie 1604vlz-pro and my Mackie HR824's.

Question: The cables are unbalanced....should I have purchased balanced speaker cable? Are these cables primarily for PA's??

Thanks

Actually the Mackies give you the option of using a standard phone plug or an XLR. Any reccomendations?

I assume you are talking about signal cables going to powered speakers and not speaker cables? If that is the case, the best option would be to use balanced cables and clip the ground at the send end to prevent ground loops and noise. There is a beautiful piece of work at the Rane website (Rane.com) called tech note 110. It deals with sound system interconnection. It should be required reading for anyone dealing with audio! This should be the link...http://rane.com/pdf/note110.pdf.
