Greetings all. So good to be back. Would like to get your thoughts on my newest round of work. I've put it up at:

www.soundclick.com/mayashea

As usual. I have NO IDEA what genre to put myself in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As usual it's the one woman band with me on the keys, bass, guitar and beats...hopefully you like it. I took a break to revamp my approach, practice and joined two gospel choirs to work on challenging my voice...the funny thing is...I'm the LONE female tenor in both choirs...but hey...i like singing with the big boys.. HA HA!!! I hope you enjoy. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm. . .

I don't mean to sound rude, but I wouldn't give these away for demos. The music in the background has no punch. It is dull sounding. Mix wise I mean.

Soundwise I would categorize you in the Jazz, Lounge, Disco category. If you had some one like a producer work with you on your songs they could get better.

Your vocals are a bit lackluster in the performance area. They don't captivate me. It just sounds like you were going through the motions. There is not a whole lot of feeling coming through IMO.

I'd use these to show a producer your ideas. Then let him/her help you mold your songs into something more marketable.

Thank!

I appreciate your honest feedback. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

I listened to call me.. you have a good voice but it's not mixed well.. maybe some compression will help even out the level.. the main problem with this mix is the clipping.. something is definitely clipping.. it may be the drums that are making it happen.. try lowering the drums and putting some compression on the vocals.. notice how they get real loud for a second around 2, but they're too low for most of the other parts..

...I like the songwriting here, and I believe you can definitely sing....I agree with the other posts about the clipping....something is making my dorky little speakers bounce up and down at quite a low volume, but I'm not sure what it is....

source of clipping?

I AGREE!!! I hear the clipping too, and the crazy thing is I can't FIND IT!!! It sounds fine...until I goto save it as an MP3...and then i hear the clips. When I monitor every track and try to hunt for the clips BEFORE converting to MP3...i don't hear or see them. Anybody else have this problem? Or any plugins or something that might help.

I have a serious problem with being technical and creative at the same time, but I have to be and aren't the greatest on the technical side, but continue to come back here for advice and help. Thank you for taking the time out to listen...it really does help me out.

nice ideas on the music and vocals, however as has been said, the voice is the pivot and should be a bit more demanding , clear, and dominant. The music could be more subdued. I wouldnt know what to call this music other than a form of alternative/hiphop.

The indi track levels themselves might not be clipping, but cumulatively could push the envelope to clipping. You could pull each track down a bit and then put them back together and see if it clips.

I would classify it as jazz/alternative. Similar artists Diana Krall, Bjork etc.

In terms of the mix, I think there may be some tempo issues to iron out. It seems like complicated rythyms or at least uncommon ones. I kinda liked the sound though, ecletic.
