i have pro tools le and a mixer with a L and R recording out, the spdif chord on the back of my mbox fits the spot, but how do i record through pro tools with this type of chord?

can i at all? im having major problems with recording through this damned powered mixer.

Just because both connectors are RCA doesn't make both of them SPDIF . . . you need an A/D converter in between . . .

ms is correct. SPDIF is short for Sony Philips Digital Interface. You can't put regular audio through it.

Spdif is a 2 channel digital protocol. The RCA outputs on your board are analog, the two are not compatable. You need to get an RCA to 1/4 to hook the mixer to the m-box.

the above is probably 99.9% true.
however, let's assume you DID have a digital mixer with S/PDIF out on it...the correct way to hook it up is to use a 75ohm (video type) RCA cable from the S/PDIF out to the mbox S/PDIF in.
Then in Pro Tools in the session setup window (Ctrl+2 on PC, or Apple+2 on Mac) you tell Pro Tools to accept digital input from channels 1-2

However, if you're using an analog board, the boys above are right.

cool, my next question was going to be "is there any chance there's such thing as a rca to 1/4 inch?"

lol you guys are too good... saved me once again!
the least i can do is rep you up a little ! :)

Yes, you can get them just about anywhere you buy cables. (except radio shack)

Tiy can alkso get little adapters that convert a 1/4" cable to rca, or mini-jack, etc.
