What is the correct cable to use to transfer from my minidisc to my audiophile 24/96. Can i do this from the headphone socket on my minidisc? Would the signal be SP/DIF? I would also like to transfer from my audiophile to my minidisc. The line in on the minidisc is analogue/digital(3.5mm).

S/PDIF is a DIGITAL signal protocol, so you cannot you analog outputs for this.

If you have digital outputs that support S/PDIF on your minidisc, then you can do a digital transfer.

It may require a proprietary cable if the output jack is a not the more-or-less standard RCA type connectors.

S/PDIF

The minidisc input is a digital one, the kind that takes a toslink cable. Is there such a cable that has the rca connctor at one side to come from my audiophile and go into the minidisc and transfer a S/PDIF signal?

Nope. TOSLINK is optical S/PDIF where the one on RCAs is coaxial. You need a sound card with TOSLINK S/PDIF ins and outs. Also if you make a S/PDIF transfer, you have to match the sampling rate of the original material (if the original is at 44.1, your digital transfer has to be 44.1 too.

Mosty Sony MD players will only allow digital transfer from the computer to the MD and not the other way around. In their infinite wisdom this was done to prevent piracy.
