SP B1 on kick

Any one else used a B1 on kick drum before? I was recording a band yesterday that had an 18" kick which sounded a bit thin and plastic like with a dynamic - not a good kick mic, just an AKG 3400. This mic sounded alright on bigger kick drum, but crap on this. I tried the B1 about 8" back, and it sounded huge! Doubled the size of the kick drum.

Just be careful. A kick drum pushes a LOT of air onto a mic's diaphragm, and condensers can sometimes have trouble with that, depending on the mic.
