The BX5 is the newer, more expensive model. I noticed that its low end frequency is higher--56Hz vs. 40-something from the SP-5B. Has anyone listened to both and provide an opinion?
Just got a Pair of SP-5B Monitors from Musicians Friend last Thursday and they are doing a great job for me. As long as you are not recording Hip Hop or other really Bass intensive stuff, either one should do a great job for ya without having a Subwoofer added.
As to whether the new freq switches on the BX5 is worth the extra 100 bux at this time, you will have to decide. I didn't play with em when I was A/Bing them and several others. I do know that SP-5B's won't be in-stock much longer.
I've found mine to provide more than enough Bass Response when setup properly. Again, I wouldn't recommend them for anyone recording HipHop or any other music that requires alot of Bass without having a Sub. I do Blues and High Energy Rock and the mixes are transferring great to other systems.
I researched and A/B'd these monitors alot before purchasing them and believe me, there are alot more positive reviews on them than negative reviews. The ones that I paid the most attention to were the actual User Reviews and my own ears.
I agree with Axe4Yahweh. I've had mine for two weeks and love 'em. I quit listening to most critics and listen for myself.
These are great for non-professional, home studio application
