Ok. I just dumped some cash into a set of M-Audio SP-8 monitors. I would like to connect a CD Player, Computer, Multitrack and Drum Machine to them.

Is there a product out there that will allow multiple sources to go to one set of monitors? All of my equipment is unbalanced and run at line level. The obvious answer is get a mixer. But I would like to have a simpler solution. A stereo receiver with pre-amp outs might do the trick, but with the advent of DVDs it's hard to find a middle of the road stereo receiver.

I am envisioning a box with 4 or 5 push buttons on the front and an equal number of RCA or 1/4" inputs on the back. One output for the monitors.

Any ideas.

Thanks

Buck

Those are active monitors, right?

If so, I don't think you want a stereo receiver.

How about a patchbay? It would probably come in handy for various other routing changes, not just the monitors.

I got mine at, believe it or not ratshack. It's a simple rca box with one input and four outputs. It has four buttons on the front and works great for multiple monitors or sources. I think it was like $20. This will only allow one sound source to be heard at a time.

Whatever you do don't send an amp signal to those monitors!

I'm enivisioning a mixer.

I had thought about a patch bay. But, my wife uses the studio (gasp!) to work on the computer. A patch bay or mixer would drive her nuts.

If I did go the Stereo receiver route, it would have to have pre-amp outputs to by-pass the amplifier.

After I sent the original post I found the exact ratshack box that was mentioned. My inital thought was that it might "degrade" the sound. Upon further refection, that was a bit anal on my part.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't post much, but I lurk all day during my down time at work.
