Hi All,

If I open any cda files from cd, soundforge starts extracting them but some of them were clipping (some peak levels were flatten on the created wave). How can I solve this serious problem? (please don't tell me to record them all , because then I have to record realtime al tracks and then cut in and out points etc

Many thanks!

Are you sure it's clipping? Is it a commercially produced CD that you're ripping or one you created yourself? A lot of commercial rock CD's have the dynamic range squashed out of them in order to maximize the volume level, and typically when you rip a CD like this you'll get a fat waveform that looks like it's clipping but really isn't.

You're right , it's not really clipping...but anyway the high ampletudes were flatten, so the dynamics were changed. The wave looks like an over-compressed (limited) track. When I record the same tracks (with control of the input-levels) I've got the full range and that's what I want.

Kind Regards!

Well, yes, essentially it is. That's what I said before - they squash the hell out of the audio so they can get it to be as loud as possible. There's no way to restore the original dynamics from the ripped audio. Although it will take longer, recording them from the analog outs is probably what you need to do. I know that's not what you want to hear though!
