M-Audio Firewire 410 here... It's cool.. but if you don't need a breakout box for a laptop or somethin.. Go with a pci card.. You can multiply cards and add extra i/o later with SOME? m-audio pci's.... Added bonus is that you can get ProTools m-powered, if you so desire.... I use it...

Firewire 410s are like 200 dollars now, i think...

Lot less than I paid...

I use the Echo Mia MIDI. It's a Pro-Sumer card with 24/96 and direct quarter inch in's and out's. It's also PCI based. Produces great quality recordings. I highly recommend it.

Most beats that you hear on a lot of major label records are tracked at home with the Digi 002r... It is more than sufficient for most hip hop work.

Lol I got a deal on my 410 PAyed 299.99 What the go for but instead of matching musicians friend ad and giving me a shitty mxl 990 He threw in a audiotechnica 3035 wich i think is a hell alot better. But as far as the firwire for ten goes one good thing is that it has well 1. S/PDIF 2. Optical S/PDIF
So when you want to add more channels. You can wich i did and buy octane pre amp PIC/INFO just plug through ADAT Lightpipe into the 410 and add more but i would wait and get the digi 002. I WISH I DID
