Hey y'all,

I'm fairly new to computer recording, as I've been working with tape and/or stand-alone digital recorders for a long time.

About a year ago, I got a system together and started working with Mackie Tracktion and an M-Audio Delta 1010LT. After some fiddling, I was able to get up and running. I've since decided that Tracktion is entirely too buggy and crashed way too often, so I uninstalled it and installed Reaper. I only ran Reaper once and barely messed around with it. I wanted to see if I could record a quick guitar track without consulting the manual, but I wasn't able to.

The problem is that now I don't get any sound when I'm playing audio files. The only time I get sound is for system sounds (like boot up, shut down, clicking, etc.). When I try to play an mp3, I get nothing.

I went through the troubleshooting process on Windows and downloaded/installed the latest driver for my Delta, and it's still the same thing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Not without going into Reaper which I don't use.
You have to go into your Preferences and set up your playback devices.
If no Reaper users come in tonight, I'll open it up and go through it with you.

Control-P for preferences.
Audio>Device sets up your ins and outs.

ITS COVERED IN THE MANUAL with pictures and everything on how to set up your computer.... please read it....

Thanks y'all, but this problem isn't Reaper specific (I don't think).

I can't even just play an mp3 file with Windows Media Player or anything. All the computer plays is system sounds.

Would installing Reaper do this?

Thanks

try going to:

Control Panel
Sounds and Audio Devices
Audio

and make sure your interface is selected here

Thanks for the suggestion Gecko. It is selected.

Actually, there are several choices:

Delta 1010LT 1-2
Delta 1010LT 3-4
Delta 1010LT 5-6
Delta 1010LT 7-8
Delta 1010LT Multi
Delta 1010LT SPDIF

I tried 1-2 (because that's the output jacks I'm using) and Multi too. Neither of them worked.

Also, it's odd, because when I first open "Sounds and Audio Devices" from the Control Panel, the "Volume" tab is selected. On that tab, it shows my soundcard (Delta 1010LT), but everything is grayed out, so I can't adjust anything. I don't know if that's significant or not.

Ok, here's an update.

I opened Reaper and selected my device in Preferences. I downloaded a demo project, and I am able to hear it just fine. Everything seems to be working fine in Reaper (I haven't gotten an input signal yet, but I only tried quickly without consulting the manual. I feel confident that I'll be able to do that after I read the manual.)

But I'm still not hearing any audio when I try to play a wav or mp3 file with Windows Media Player, Quicktime, etc. I do hear system sounds through my monitors, but no audio (mp3 or wav songs) outside of Reaper.

What the hell?
