Sound Replacer...

Is anyone familiar with a "sound replacer" plugin that will work with Cubase SX? My guitarist owns digi002 and says he has a plugin that he uses to clean up some of his drum tracks. He says he can take drum tracks and use them to trigger sounds in his library. So for example, if I have a shitty tom sound, I want to be able to turn that wave into a trigger and either use samples that I have on my computer or somehow syncronize an alesis D4 or Roland TD-8 [i have access to both]. Is this possible?

I'm a little unclear about midi options/triggers. If I purchase pintech triggers and run them to an alesis D4, do I just run midi outs from the alesis into my layla, or would I also run the stereo line outs?

Will sound replacer work for CUBASE SX? [its a not a pro tools proprietary plug-in?]
