So, my band and i have chosen to sound proof my singers garage. we have a $2000 budget. From what little i read before we began, we started doing what we could, i wish we staggered the studs but we didnt. At this point we have built 4 walls, with 2x4's the room is about 14x14. unfortunatly as ive recently read the 4x8 2 inch thick styrofoam we bought wont do to much for sound. but well throw them in the walls anyway. we also purchased these mats called r max, which i beleive they use on the siding of mobil homes, and reflect sound very well. our plan for each wall is to have styrofoam between each stud, then put one or 2 layers of 3/4 drywall on the inside. and the r max on the outside wall. We are also debating a floating floor. the roof we are not to sure yet, we are thinking of stander panels like in an office building and throwing some thick rugs on top of them or something. let me know if anyone has any suggestions or just come corrective critisism

For sure lots of carpetting on the floor. What are you doing with the garage door? DAve

Some people will tell you not to even try doing stuff like this but it reminds me so much of me I'm all for it. Just one tip, Have as much mass as possible. Along with what you said also try a couple extra layers of drywall on the outside then the rmax if possible, you'll still have sound leakeage which reminds me, caulk/seal every single crack you can, being airtight is a good step to isolation.

Don't forget you'll want to breath, and you don't wanna make a firetrap.

A cheapo way that wouldn't interfere with the door would be to hang carpetting or egg crate packing that could be easily removed or duct taped ( :D ) to the ceiling/door channels. Dave
