I tried this in the Hip hop forum, but it didnt generate any info so here goes...

I wanted an E-mu MP7 all in one command station with the mo phatt soundset but you cant buy them in the UK anymore.

So my question is, how do i actually 'play' this:
http://www.emu.com/products/product...ry=627&nav=spec

Do i need a keyboard or some drum pads thing? What do i have to get to go with that rack sound module. And id like to be able to record/sequence all the tracks together (like the mp7)

Or - are there any other 'all in one' boxes out there with mo phatt/r n B/Hip Hop type soundsets? Im crazy bout my buddies mo phatt soundset (he has an MP7)

(hardware only, i dont use a comp for recording)

Any ideas?
Cheers all

Yeah, the module needs to be controlled by a controller (a keyboard or drum pads) and/or a sequencer.

Not really, I mean something like a Yamaha RS7000 might be an option, but that doesn’t have a hip-hop specific soundset. It does, however, have the ability to sample, which is kind of necessary, especially for hip-hop. That’s the only all in one type box I’d suggest, aside from maybe the Roland MC-909, but that’s a little over priced.

You could get something like an Akai MPC and the Mo Phatt. Then you could sequence and control the Mo Phatt with the MPC and also sample with the MPC.

Workstations are another all in one solution, if you want keys. The Triton, Motif and Fantom S all have great soundsets, sequencers and samplers.

What’s your budget?

Hey thanks for the help.

Firstly, I have been watchin ebay like a Hawk for a used MP7, based on what you said I do think waiting patiently is my best option. I could get one for under £500 on ebay.

If I happen to be not so patient, my budget would prob be around £500. I dont think thats enough for an MPC (ive heard good things about them) and a sound module, an MP7 might pop up for £400 one day and I'd be kicking myself, especially that all in one thing is a 'perfect' solution. Its a shame E-mu have offered no direct replacment for the MP7.

Im not too fussed about sampling, I dont do Hip Hop per se (ive never written a rap in my life, but I do listen to alot of it), but my music borrows from those tight bassy beats (I write kind of contemporary 'pop' music, but i love that urban street sound alot.... AND the beatles lol...) But nyways. My mate (who is 100% Hip hop based has an MP7 and even the sound samples (not just the beats) has helped my demos sound a little more dynamic.

If sampling is not a factor, is there a pad/sequencer only machine out there?
Or do you advise me to be patient?

Thanks

500 pounds? XE.com converts that to almost $900. The MP7 new was only $700.

Here's an MP7 for $425 and they do ship internationally.

Thanks!

I have just sent them an email asking about a few things... Thanks for your help stray411!

Ok, they will ship!

$100 or whatever that is in ££.

One prob, it will have a US plug on it. Can anyone tell me if this will be compatible with UK power sockets? through the use of an adapter maybe? or re-wiring it? Without setting fire to anything ...!
