Hello everyone! I'm new here and could not be more exited to find this site! I use Soundforge basically as a stereo recorder from my AKAI DPS 12. I recently decided to try to multitrack with it,
recording for example a drum mix, guitar, and vocal mix in separate windows(envelopes?) with the idea of applying different effect in S.F. and then combining them using the MIX function. My problem is in synching up the tracks. I tried to record a 4 clicks on all mixes, and using the waveform screen tried to start each mix on the first click, but found that it sounded funny.... I guess this question could apply to any multitrack device recording tracks from other recorders.......can they be synched without some sort od MIDI??????????

Hey dere,

Sound Forge can only deal with one track (either mono or stereo). For multitrack recording, you need something like :
CakeWalk
Home Studio
Sonor
Sonic Foundry
Vegas...

There's tons of these apps, some free/share-ware, some for $, some for too many $

Check out the Computer Recording BBS here at homerecording.com... all of these BBSs are top notch.

Hi redstang,

As the others mentioned, you need to use a multitrack recording application. Sound Forge's main purpose is in editing and processing single (mono/stereo) files, such as the final WAV of your song.

In addition, you'll need to use SMPTE/MTC time code to sync your AKAI to your multitrack software in order to keep the tracks in sync.

Best,
Scott
