I just downloaded the Beta version of Sound Forge and was wondering if the program has the option to do noise reduction. In Cool Edit, you sample part of the "noise" and the feature edits that frequency from your song. The only (slightly) comparable feature I see in Sound Forge is the noise gate.

Thanks for your help.

The closest thing I know of to that functionality in Sonic Foundry-land would be the Noise Reduction DirectX Plugin set. Works pretty well, too - it's helped me touch up a bunch of stuff that originally came off 4-track cassette.

hmm

And from what I can tell, that's not included in the software (unless of course I am missing something). Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Most people would use the software for mastering and need noise reduction, especially after normalizing, etc. $400 and no included noise reduction.

I think there´s a plug-in pack, not sure about its name, maybe Sonic Foundry noise reduction or XFX. It includes one called Noise Reduction and another called Click Removal, maybe you can find them at

www.sonicfoundry.com

but anyway, I prefer the results given by Cool Edit Pro. Easier for use, better results (without wasting lots of time!)

I will have to check that out, thanks for the replies. I used to use Cool Edit 96, but wasn't that impressed. I couldn't get loud enough levels.
