I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstall all my software to try and pep up my computer. Before formatting Pro Tools worked fine.

I used a factory restore disk for a Dell Dimension E521 and reinstalled all applicable drivers from the second bundled disk provided upon my original purchase.

I immediately installed Drivers for my M-Audio fire wire 410, drivers for my Axiom 49, Pro Tools 7.4, and then just to test to see if virtual instruments are working correctly native instruments FM 8, absynth, massive and a couple others.

The sound in all other programs works fine. ( windows media player, fruity loops, reason etc. )

Upon opening Pro Tools the audio seems to work fine for the first 5 seconds... but the moment you give the virtual plug in even a simple midi sequence whether via the piano roll or from the midi controller the sound degrades terribly. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like the master channel is being run through decimort or sonalksis TBK2. It gets really 8 bit then eventually the sound dies out completely. It has never done this before and worked fine for years.

I have formatted and reinstalled a few times before and never had any issues. Any idea on what may be causing this or how to fix it?

Im Running windows XP Media Center addition service pack 2 ( also tried with service pack 3 ) .. Dual AMD athalon 2.6 processors 4 gig of ram on a 500 gig hard drive.

update.. ... protools wont geek out when its just sequenced notes in the piano roll ... it only happens when i try and play the notes through my axiom 49
