I've just got my new pair of MSH-1 mics today. Here are the sound clips I recorded straight from the package. No effects, no EQ, no compression just normalize to -3db.

MSH-1 Stereo

I recorded side by side the MSH-1 and MXL603 at 12th fret. Can you tell which one is MSH-1 and MXL603? ;)

Mic1
Mic2

Thanks for the clips, These sound terrific! and so does your guitar playing, gorgeous balance and tone on this recording.

How was your placement? I suppose one near the soundhole and another close to the bottom of the fretboard?

anyway, these convinced me enough.
I cant wait to order some

Thanks for the clips,
Noah

Thanks... I used spaced pair, at 12th fret and at the bridge.

Sounds great, thanks for the clips. I loved my MSH-1A, then gave it away (stupid) and bought a 1M which is good but I don't like it quite as much as the 1A.

I've never used the MXL but just guessing, I'd say the first one is the MSH.

You did a good job on the recording because it sounds great in stereo and still sounds good in mono. Something which I can't seem to get just right yet.

Mic1
Mic2

#2 has the better sound but sounds a bit muffled. #1 has more high end but is a little harsh. Very nice playing BTW, very musical with your phrasing.

I like the Mic 2 better... Never had those mics, so i can´t tell...
Pres involved in the test?

Thanks for sharing...

#2 is the MXL, it is a cardioid and has more bass response due to proximity effect. But I'm listening on home computer with Soundblaster 5.1 and cheap Creative speakers. Heck, it doesn't even sound like a real guit through this setup, but for me the bass response tells the difference.

i love the song....yes it is a bit bassy probably due to proximity effect but you are there.

just out of curiosity, what guitar are you using? I can't get my 603 to sound as good as either of the takes, but I think it's because my guitar isn't that great (could be placement). I haven't tried it in a while though, because I keep favoring the sound of a LDC instead.

very bassy..

whats up with that?

did you record it way hot? sounds nice though, but too much bass.

hmm...i like the first one better. the middle strings had a bit more definition, and the second had just a bit to much bass to them.

either way though. one of the best acoustic sounds i've heard from this site

I was in a hurry to track these clips I think it was 8" away from the 12th fret. I normally move the mics from 10"~12" to lessen the bassy result. Sometimes I like a bit bassy sounds though, it depends which style and playing. Most of the time I compensate it with EQ because at 10"~12" the acoustic/noise of my room is a factor.

Thanks guys for the comments! I will wait in few more days what else other think and I will tell which mics and which clips :)

I'm using Yahama guitar. It tooks me for a while to find the better placement and sweet spot.
