I need an advice whether Creative Sound blaster prodigy2 platinum sound card will be compatible for cubase sx2 or will I need anything extra?

All you need to find out is if your soundcard supports ASIO. ASIO are drivers made by Steinberg. If your soundcard supports ASIO, that means you can record and playback with high-quality, low latency and low system load. You can find out by checking the Creative site and reading the information provided about that particular card.

Usually, cards costing over 150 bucks support 24bit 96kHz recording, with ASIO.

Unless there is a new soundcard I havn't heard of from them, anything that has the words "sound blaster" in it, usually isn't great for recording. You can do it mind you, but it is usually saddled with problems and subpar quality. There are people who do it however.

If you're looking for a new soundcard look at the M-Audio 2496, I've seen them for $99. Echo Electronics is also coming out with some new products and you can pickup one of their "old" Ginas for almost nothing. If you can find a Echo Mia you can usually buy them for under $50 (a great deal).
