Sound Card Recording

Hi Everyone,

Scenario:

1. I have a Fujitsu A6020 Laptop with an onboard sound card that has Realtek HD as codec.

2. I'm an amateur musician and I'm trying to record sound coming from a softsynth controlled by my MIDI keyboard directly back into my sound card's input, which is somewhat a "record what you hear" setup. I have tried numerous software to see if I can record without the need for wires but to no avail. Now I'm thinking about buying a connector to connect my line-out jack to the line-in jack.

Question:

1. Is it safe to do the above configuration? I'm worried it might produce a feedback loop that would fry my sound card's circuits.

2. Is there another way to record without the need for wires?

Hi.

Total recorder will record anything your on board sound card generates.

Why dont you get Reaper and then record the midi and then trigger the softsynth ?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, the main reason for my inquiry is MusicLab's RealGuitar 2. I'm trying to record what I'm playing in real-time. However, I think your suggestion about recording the MIDI first and then trigger a softsynth may be my best bet. I just haven't gotten around setting up my DAW (Sonar 4 Producer's Edition) to use RealGuitar's VST (if it has any).

Anyway, I'll try it first and get back to this thread if I encounter any problems.
