Ethan, thanks for your participation in this forum. You certainly raise the level of debate. No I haven't tried the Audigy, just the Live. I am interested in hearing how the Audigy sounds after recording and stacking 16 to 24 tracks in a mix, but I don't know that I'll be doing that anytime soon. However, I'll take your word on its ability for MIDI and soundfonts. That, alone, makes it worth the price for me.

Wow.

The one thing I learned there is that Tom's hardware apparently has no idea what they're doing! Look at the Audigy's frequency response test, where the levels change by exactly 6 dB. at every octave. I can only assume they had a feedback loop or some sort of delay patched in by mistake. There is NO WAY the Audigy has that response curve!

It sounds fine.

Yes, that's what this card is really good for. And that's what gets overlooked in a sound card shootout. I don't care if the Audigy is not the best audio card in the world. I use it as a sampler. But the Audigy is a fine audio card too. It certainly won't be the limiting quality factor in most home studios.
