Sort of noob, re-setting up on a budget...

Hi folks, a re-born studio fan here.
I need a little of your infinite wisdom, and I apologise in advance for the potential myriad stoopid questions I may ask!;)
To start with, I'm looking to set up a small studio for producing dance tracks with some minimal vocals on. Budget is extremely limited to £1500 (sorry, I got no currency converter.:o). I used to have a studion set up consisting of a Krog Triton with various sound boards, a Behringer rack mounted mixer and some outboard effects.
I loved the Triton but can't stretch to that (a double kick in the balls really as I still have all my old tunes on discs for one.:().

So anyway, I know times have moved on since then and I'm asking, what hot, what's not, what would be the most versatile or appropriate set up for my needs?

My initial interest was to pair up an emx-1 with an esx-1 and run these through a small mixer, but I haven't seen the emx-1 mentioned too much. Why is that?

Thanks in advance, Dids.:)

I have the original ER-1, ES-1, and EA-1 running into a Behringer UB802. I run the ER-1 MIDI OUT to the ES-1 MIDI IN, then the ES-1 MIDI THRU to the EA-1 MIDI IN, so that everything is synced to the ER-1.

I'd guess the reason you don't read too much about Electribes here is that most people are using software or live drums now.

I've tried going the pc/mac route myself but I'm more a "hands on knobs" guy...so to speak...
I could possibly be persuaded to go the point and click route but I don't know enough about it to leave my comfort zone just yet.

Cheers, Dids

Same here. I don't have any intention of pointing and clicking diddly squat. I've tried various combinations of interfaces, control surfaces, and software to try to get the "real" feel, and it was one big hassle after another. I program computers 40 hours a week. F**king around with them in the studio kills my motivation.

So it's not just me then!

In that case, would you say that the electribes would have the versatility and longevity to do what I ask of them, up to a respectable level?

Dids,

I don't think step sequencers and samplers will ever become obsolete. The particular synth sounds created by the analog modeling Electribes may go out of vogue (if they haven't already), but it's hard to imagine, as analog synth sounds have been popular for many decades with no end in sight.

Yeah, exactly that. I recall about ten years ago the word was that trance and house was dead, but now there's hip hop and r'n'b stars using the very same pads and patches, and even the same chord structures.

Many thanks for your help, diggy_dude, I'll be off then to research some compact mixers.;)

ATB, Dids

I have a Behringer UB802 up for grabs if you want it. PM me your shipping address and I'll get it out next weekend.

Cheers for the offer but I've also got an old Roland XP-50 I'm probably gonna want to throw in the mix at some point, so 8 channels won't quite be enough.
Thanks again though mate,
Dids.:)
