I hate how when they give you specs they speak in terms that you'd have to know what you're talking about to know.

Description:
The UB802 features 2 INVISIBLE MIC PREAMPs (IMPs), 6 balanced high-headroom line inputs, 1 post fader FX send per channel for external FX devices and 1 stereo aux return for FX applications or as separate stereo input.
The Behringer UB802 features 2 Invisible Mic Preamps (IMPs), 6 balanced high-headroom line inputs, 1 post fader FX send per channel for external FX devices and 1 stereo aux return for FX applications or as separate stereo input. There is also an effective, extremely musical 3-band EQ on all channels. The UB802 is well-suited for use with fixed audio and video installations as well as keyboards, samplers and computer application.

So how many mics would i be able to use with it. my friend said four because he has to mic cords with 1/4" jacks. and two of the other ones.

If you could also let me know what kind of interfaCE i should get it would be GREATLy appreciated. Thank you guys, especially tangerine.

You can connect upto 6 mics, D i (Direct inject the bass) this will give you five inputs and then experiment on mic placing.
Ok, The other ones are three pin, these are called balenced XLR inputs (they are called female for the obvious reason, the holes).

I use a Terratec DMX24/6 fire they cost around £115, have a look at their web site, M-audio are good and you could always get a cheap creative sound card and learn. This site is full of good advice and help.

Is it possible to just use my current sound card and just buy an adapter to be able to plug a 1/4" jack into it?

If anything, you might want to take the [record] or [master] outs from the mixer directly into your computer's soundcard.

The disadvantage of this is that once you set the mixer levels, you can't go back. You will only be recording one stereo "track".

Sorry but you can only use 2 mics with that mixer. The other inputs are line inputs and if you put a mic into it the signal will be quiet to the point of being unuseable. The only way to use mics into the line inputs is to put external preamps in between the mics and the inputs.

Mic preamps (which are built into inputs 1 and 2) are needed to bring the output of the mic (which is very weak) up to line level.

If mixing it all on the fly is all you can afford to do then you need a card with just the minimum two mono inputs and as has been said this will give you one stereo track. The M Audio Audiopphile 2496 would be a good choice. Musician's friend does them for $99.

You could buy cheaper (Soundblaster etc.) but I'm not going to recommend them because they're crap for recording.

Sounds like you have a few problems to overcome but good luck with it all.

Well i guess im not recording then. Thanks for all the help anyways guys.
