I like the song

It sounds like an old-fashioned REAL country song, but from the 70's - in the vein of 'country roads'. That's a good thing. Harmonies remind me of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, again 70's style.

I love the background vocals - the ooohs are good, and the harmony is nice on the verse.

The mandolin? is present, but not too peircing or shrill for the strumming, and the trilled riffs are really pleasant.

The acoustic guitars are really soft - did you compress and reverb them a lot? It sounds like they're coming off a tape. Actually, the whole song sounds like you played it from a tape. Or it could be from the MP3 encoding.

The bass seems a little low to me, and also soft - a double bass, or the low strings of a guitar.

And no drums is quite a relief!

Liked everything about it. Great vocals. A cross between country and Bluegrass. Sounded good even though I had to listen on Real Player.

Thanks for listening

Hi Eric,
Willie uses a Rolland DAT 8-track and then does line in encoding to his PC...

He plays all of the instruments and sings all of the tracks...
The guy is absolutely a phenomenal talent....ya know?
Imagine what he could do with more gear or in a studio...

Willie's favorite type of music is the harmony bands of the 70's....ya know, POCO, Eagles, etc...
so you pretty much hit the nail on the head...

Hi Gitfiddle,
Thanks for the kind words...
Glad that ya liked it.
This was my first (and only to date) country song..
I am a "Big City" kid....ya know?
Willie is from Scotland....lots of folk music over there...
Thanks again
Joe

Listening right now...I've got a huge smile on my face. :D Great tune!

The only thing that stood out to me was the banjo hard panned to one side. Sounds clean and clear but draws quite a bit of attention. I might have taken it down a little and/or panned it in a tad. The only place it is balanced out to my ears is right at the end when the mandalin kicks in on the other side.

But then I've never mixed country or bluegrass.

Still smiling...
Chris
