I am totally new to this so bare with me. I read some of
what you guys have been saying and am glad to find a group who of guys who will taking on this new venture
with Sonar. I do however feel I was getting the hang
of Cakewalk and of course will be glad to have it as a
backup. Im interested to know if anyone if using the
Motu 2408 mkII. I am having all kinds of success with it.
Just wondering about the Wdm drivers and what anybody has done to upgrade to the 96khz. Would
love to be able to track at 96khz. Anybody doing this
or finding that is not worth the move. Motu has an upgrade but it will cost about $1300.00. Im considering
maybe another audio card to go along with the PCI 324.
Dont really need that many I/O's. Thanks for the feedback. See you around

Sorry eh...

but the MOTU stuff is a little bit on the pricey side for me. I want toys sooner and find it hard to wait long enough to save up the funds. But I will certainly give feedback on SONAR.

Why don't you give us your opinion of the MOTU equipment, since I've only ever read about it.

How's it sound? What was the install like? Is support good? EAsy to use? Give us a personal review...

Motu 2408 mkII

thanks for the reply Uncle. As for the review I will try.
Im afraid that the only comparison I can make is with
the Midiman 2044 since this was my upgrade. I entertained the Echo cards Gina Layla, and Darla I believe. Also Pro tools Digi 001 but I wasnt sold on Pro tools. Sorry, they might be an industry standard but
I guess I have become attached to Cakewalk.
What got me to go Motu was the interface. With the
2408 you get 24 I/O,s. these would be 8 analog 1/4"
trs balanced 16 channels of Digital with the abilitly
to go ADAT or TDIF.It has whats called an audio wire
which seems to be closely related to a firewire thats
carrying the audio to the card which is installed in a
Pci slot. The card "PCI 324 is a 96khz 24bit card and
sounds great. Ive always heard that Motu makes
some of the best A/D D/A converters at this price range.
Heres the fun part I have been playing up to 36 tracks
of audio! With insert effects everywhere and practically
anywhere I wanted. Yes I am dealing with a little
latency but to me thats not as important during the
mixdown stage where I need to do most my tweaking.
My only beef is ,and I know Im being greedy is the interface is topped off at 48khz. The 96khz interface
which has the 8 or 10 XLR I/O is a little more than I need
and that is another $1300.00 I was hoping that someone was already running a 2 or maybe 4 I/O
96khz card that they would recommend. I dont know
how much space we are allowed for replys so maybe
I should cut it short. Let me know what you think.

OK. I recommend the Aardvark DirectPro 24/96. It is a 4-in 6-out box with S/PDIF and universal XLR/TRS connectors. It has three preamp settings so you can connect line in or instrument and set the proper pre gain, plus it has a gain control on top of that. It has phantom power for the XLR's for mic's that require it. It has on-board DSP with an EQ, a Compressor and reverb. It has ASIO drivers as well as standard windows drivers. The PCI card is totally shielded and the A/D converters are in the breakout box attached to the six foot cable that comes with it.

This is of course, just my opinion.

24/96

and... the Aardvark 24/96 WDM drivers will be ready very soon, according to Aark.... mine is still in the box, ready for my new DAW. Got my motherboard today, 3 more pieces and I'm in business. This thing is gonna fly. (1.2ghz AMD, 266mhz system bus, 512mb double data rate RAM, ata100HD.... oh yeah baby, give it to me...)
And, the 24/96 can be synched together through the spdif ports to connect up to 4 of them, 1 master, 3 slaves. Good way to start small and work up to your final need, AND, you can buy a rackmount chassis that holds 2 of them for like $40.
Peace,
Paul

Thanks guys. I was gonna get the ark 24/96 but opted
for the Motu. I wonder if anyone is running multiple audio cards? And I dont mean soundblaster. How
much is that 24/96 going for these days? OH and
I didnt get my Sonar today. I know , i know..it just
shipped. I hope there is a real manual that comes
with it. You would think that there would be a
downloadable manual or is there?
