I am ready to buy a new computer. The setup I have now is:

Locally built P3 350MHz 6.5 GBHD 128 of RAM
Aardvark 2496
Samplitude that came with the Aardvark

I am looking at the Sony VAIO PCVRS 100 as my next computer. Looking to use the same audio card and newer Samplitude software.

Anyone see any problems with this before I buy?

I would find a competent PC tech in your area and build your own. Store bought PC's are never as good as customs when it comes to PC recording.

I will partially agree...but yes, build your own with top notch well known components.

Sony's are overpriced garbage, and I think all of them have integrated video, which shares system resources (=bad). In this case, a Dell would even be better, and probably cheaper too.

Dells are over-priced garbage too. I just worked on one the other day; proprietary crap.

As long as you're getting a good price, the Sony VAIO's are not garbage. I've been recording on one for 9 months, and have NO complaints. I bought mine from www.ubid.com, where I picked it up for a song, but I've never had any problems. I added a 2nd hard drive, and extra RAM, and it's been pretty bulletproof.

The one thing you need to do is some homework. Check your soundcard manufacturer's web page for chipset incompatibilities, etc, and make sure that any computer you buy (VAIO or not) is not going to have conflicts that the manufacturer already knows about.

Frankly, I love my machine, so I'll advocate them. Someone had to stick up for it....
