I have Beyer 770 pro, Senn 280 pro, Sony mdr-7506 and 7510.

7506
7506's are my oldest pair of cans, so probably I'm too used to them. They sound bright but it really doesn't bother me. My main choice for recording. So comfortable I could wear them all day (also changed the original ear pads to Beyer 250 velour pads)

7510
While I was hoping, that 7506 and 7510 were close sounding - they are not. In my opinion 7510 sounds awful but is good at bringing up problematic areas around 100-3000hz. In short - really bad for listening music, really good for checking mixes. Also pretty uncomfortable and singers have found these harsh and unpleasant sounding.

280
As mentioned before they have good isolation so I mainly use these for drummers, however lately I have been testing these out with different artists. No complaints so far except that they are a bit uncomfortable as they squeeze your head pretty hard. Can't wear them for long hours. I think they sound pretty neutral and boring - would not buy if I weren't recording drummers.

770
These are pretty new to me so I haven't got time to focus on them very much. What I can say is that the sound more bass heavy than the other 3. Very comfortable. I see these at BBC sessions all the time, there must be a reason, right?

I don't find my 7510s harsh and unpleasant on my voice, I just think my voice is harsh and unpleasant...:D
Seriously, they aren't that wonderful, but the 380s are superb. Only thing I wish Senny would do is make removable cable so you could opt for coiled or straight. There are good uses for both. One of the reasons I like ATH-M50s. May get a set later just for the straight cable. :)

7506 ear pads are not the best, there is as minimum one better as original ear pad version at eBay. But concerning sound you can not far wrong using 7506. For those who like 7506 I can suggest to try DT48. The most natural sounding headphone.

The 280 Pros arrived today and initial impressions are favorable.

They definitely aren't as comfortable for me as the Sony 7506 pair, but I think that's partly just because they fit so much more snugly over the ears. This probably goes hand in hand with having better isolation, which seems to be true. They definitely produce more low end than the 7506's, but I don't know if that's a case of being hyped or more neutral. It's all so relative...anyway, thanks for all the advice. I think most of what everyone said here about these phones seems true to me. Well worth the $86.00 price tag on amazon! I wouldn't mind another pair of Sony's someday though for vocals and other things.

Now I have no excuse not to start doing some tracking! :)

I think the Sony's always were/are more hyped...and IMO, not very well fitting. IOW, they just kinda float on your ears, which may make them seem more comfortable, but for recording you need/want them to actually fit over your ears.

I agree about the Sony's being more hyped, and yes, they fit somewhat loosely. That didn't just make them seem more comfortable...they were! I could wear them all day while tracking with no discomfort at all. I haven't had any other phones I could say that about. Time will tell on these new ones I guess...
