sonic maximizer questions...

okay well i just tried puting a few things through this and it just sounds like shit.... wtf does this thing do???
 
They can be usefull for some tracks that need a little oomph. You definately don't want to run your entire mix through one. They are basically like a fancy "Loudness" button on a home stereo.
 
When I was recording on my 4 track I would use them on the final mix and it helped the mixdown tape sound better. Now that I have a full blown DAW I almost never use it.

My guitar player uses one live plugged into his amp and it definately makes a huge sound difference, much more depth and fullness to the sound. You just have to make sure your not overdoing it. If you use it on a guitar amp and it sounds like crap it may be a defective unit.

But I think they have more of a live aplication than for recording (although you could use it on a guitar your going to record).
 
I think the Sonic Maximizer is great for recording bass guitar..

welp i just changed it from the whole mixdown to single things like...

kick drum and bass guit... and it seems to give it a lota ..... oomff

so i guess i will stick with it... but is this considerd cheating?? ehhhehhe
 
No issues of cheating versus not cheating...just doing what you think sounds the best. Experiment and have fun :)
