Quick question: "Feeling Low" (Limiting)

Recorded w/ my band in 2020 during covid, I do not sing on this - even though I wrote it. I remixed it a month ago w/ new tools and walked away to get fresh ears. I returned this morning to tweak the limiting. I was aiming for clarity and detail w/o it sounding like it was sonically shouting.

Does it sound "natural" or does it sound "artificially turned up to 11"?

Thanks folks!

Same single question on the second song above as the first.

Too much or right amount?

I am listening on not great speakers.
To my ears there is some harshness in first part, maybe the limiter push is exaggerating it?

I like the mix for the most part, but the bass isn't working for me. I like it up front like you have it, not sure. I would end up chasing the crap out of finding the right EQ on it. Question? Do you think the bass should have a quicker release so it pumps a bit? The back end it seems to clean up better.

Good playing and good groove.

I'm weird about bass. First thing is I've a 200 hz hole in my hearing - the result of having to have drain tubes poked in them in my youth. So I'm sensitive to overdoing it - and because of that - I'm prone to underdoing it.

I like the bass to be heard, but not dominating. In older recordings, you almost can't even hear it, because too much of it would jump the cartridge out of the vinyl groove it was sitting in. Point being, traditionally it's been underutilized and listeners have been trained to not miss it.

So as long as it's not stomping all over the rest of the instruments, and clarity can be maintained around it - I don't care if it pumps a bit or not. I want it solid and even in the mix, while holding down the song foundation, clearly noticeable, but not too noticeable (because I think my ears don't hear it as well as others do).

... which is weird, because in rock, bass is probably the defining element of the song - no matter what guitarists say.

:D
