Hey...Yo!!!
I was wondering how I would go about getting some of my original tunes on a file sharing program such as Kazaa? I tried about 2 years ago with my last band and it didnt work. I know this because I would "put the songs up for download" and then go over to my old mans house (2 blocks away) and I couldnt manage to get them to show up in a search where I spelled everything exactly. I assume that we were on the same "network" the whole citie is. But nothing,,,nada... anyone???

I would just think you would just have to put your file into your shared folder. I'm not sure other than that...

Yo Fattie...
Well thats what I mean when I said that I put them up fo download. And My old mans house is actually less than 2 blocks away in a small city. At the time I also had other friends try to download the songs and no one (and I mean no one!!!) could find them...

Make sure you have enabled sharing with other users.

Also try the file import feature. It's under options. 'FIND MEDIA TO SHARE'

Tukkis:)

yea.. kazzaa went a bit crappy with that, i cant explain it either, but had the same problem when i wanted to share something - it just didnt show up at the ppl that wanted to download it.. maybe u just have to give it some time.. like it maybe indexes files, and refreshes that index every other day or whatever.. only thing i can think of.

file sharing through KAZAA is a really bad idea unless you are keen on catching tons of viruses and trojan hourses and spend days trying to restore your system.

Having said that, I am sure you'll have to wait a day or two after you've put your files into the Shared Files folder, enabled files sharing and the KAZAA machine had enough time to sniff out your computer and add the files to their list at their server. That also means you have to leave your computer running and online, of course. Welcome to the world where your system is wide open to any attacks coz its constantly online and hackers have enough time to find a backdoor and take over your machine! In that case you need a firewall, unless you are crazy.

If you search for a file, KAZAA it is NOT scanning millions of computers, of course. It's just comparing your search with a central data base, which is essentially a list of files which are on other computers. Its might need some time till your files enter that database. But then again: stay away from KAZAA as far as you can!

Bottom line: file-sharing through KAZAA -- really bad idea!

I agree with giganova, send your file through aim or whatever to a few friends, let them offer it in their shared folders :D

hey guys...
thanks for all of the ideas and insight...I dont care about using kazaa to share files (mine). I just want to be able to get some of my songs "out there" and I want it on kazaa cause everyone I know uses that. that way I can tell someone the name of a song or the band name and they can go home, type it in and "BAM" there I am. Ive tried to refer people to Nowhere radio in the past but people are like "What?" whats that? Then you have to tell them the name of the site and its all a hassle to the average Joe. With Kazaa you can just say look up "Band Name" on kazaa and download a song...much easier...
Thanks guys...ill try what you guys said and get back in a few days...

you can put them on Kazaa but then you have to leave your computer online. Kazaa opens lots of backdoors to your computer, though, where hacker can get in. Your decision if you think music servers like mp3.com or nowhereradio.com or too complicated.

Oh yeah...
I have kazaalite. I know lite doesnt help for hackers but it sure does for banner ads...Thanks...

I guess it's true that we are most afraid of things we don't understand. If you're using KazaaLite, you are not opening a zillion hackdoors. There are certain programs that get installed with the regular version of Kazaa (and like programs) that are ad/spyware; this is the reason that KazaaLite exists. But they are not trojans.

Further, if you use a garden variety anti-virus program (e.g. Norton) and use it correctly (keep it up to date, do a weekly scan, i.e. things you should be doing anyway), you won't have any problems with infected files.

Finally, there is no central list of files. This technology is called Peer To Peer, remember? Your machine asks another computer if they have a file. "No, but I'll ask the next guy ... " and so on until it finds the file or exhausts the machines in your "node".

I think the reason that you don't see your files on the other machine is that it is not on the same node. I think the node you join is random, even two machines running Kazaa in the same room might connect to different nodes.

Its only peer-to-peer when it comes to the actual download coz the Kazaa machines don't store files. But Kazaa sniffs out all machines at all times and has a central data base. If not, how could it be that you perform a Kazaa search and it gives you a long list with lots of users that aren't even online?

I agree that the files you download when you install Kazaa don't contain viruses/trojan horses. The peer-to-peer shared files do, though! If you make a song available, it is possible and quite likely that someone downloads them to listen to them. That download will end up in his shared files folder. Now you've lost total control over your own song! It is quite possible that a nasty virus gets attached to your songs on some other machine. Since that file will be shared, you can have virus-infected copies even of your own files all over the place! I know what I am talking about, coz I had that problem. And yes, I had Norton anti-virus running, but didn't update it each day before I went online.

The safest way to share music is definitely to use the web sites dedicated for music (mp3.com, nowhererardio.com and all the others). Alternatively, you can just rent online space and put your song there for download. That's what I do to play it safe,

I disagree with you here, cf:

http://www.kazaa.com/us/help/glossary/p2p.htm

"This means that individual users connect to each other directly, without need for a central point of management."

But you have a good point about file control. I agree that NowhereRadio is probably a better choice than Kazaa.
